Guest guest
Shani: Possibly your daughter is not ready to be in the shoes?! My son was put in to the shoes (without the bar, because our orthotic told us that was only used when the hip was out of alignment.......we had bad information coming at us from all angles!!!) after his tenotomy and I kept having the same problems with the shoes coming off.....we did that and went back and forth with the dr. for 12 weeks! We even tried wrapping the shoes with ace bandages to help them stay on. Are you seeing a Ponseti dr.? Also, you may want to consider taking your question to Dr. Ponseti? His email address is available on his site and his secretary told me that he is in the office MWF and that she dictates his responses on Mondays and Fridays, if you hit it on the right day, you may even get a response the same day! It's worth a try? shoes falling off Hi, My daughter is 5 months old and has been in her corrective shoes with DB bar for almost 3 months. She is doing great. Our problem now is that her shoes keep falling off. We only use socks with treads to minimize slipping. I keep pulling the strap tighter but she manages to slip her foot out. I had to put them on her 15 times today!!! Maybe the leather has stretched out. Any suggestions? thanks, Shani
Guest guest
Shani, The first thing that comes to mind is that her bar has gotten too short. It's pretty standard for kids to out-grow their first FAB setting within the 3 months of full-time wear. And it's very common for babies to be able to get out of their FAB/DBB when the bar is too short and/or their shoes are getting too small. Most babies seem to be comfortable (and can't slip out!) when their FAB is set up so that the ditance between the heels of the shoes is the same as the width of their shoulders. An easy way to check this is to hold the FAB up to your daughter's shoulders. She should be able to fit right between the shoes without any squeezing. You can also lay the FAB on the floor and see whether you can lie her shoulders between the shoes. If you have an adjustable bar, it's easy to widen (loosen the black clamps with an allen wrench, slide the pieces to the right length and tighten everything back up). If you have a fixed-length bar, you are going to need to get a bigger one. It's great to hear that everything is going well so far with your daughter's treatment. Who is her treating physician? If you think of other questions--or if changing the FAB set-up doesn't help things--please don't hesitate to ask.
