Guest guest
Exactly my point. I will have him for this one. Firstly due to Adam's low muscle tone, if he is going to expend energy " writing " it should be on his WORK and not copying. Secondly NO WHERE in the curriculum does it say students need to learn to copy from the board. That is a teacher strategy, and as you have noted, a highly ineffective one. The more I listen to this man the more I am hearing the same message " academically I don't care what he does, I just want him sitting quietly and doing work!! " UGH. But I still maintain, after A LOT of thought last night, I will not move Adam out of the class (I had one friend suggest I move him out of the school) because he is bound to meet these dinosaur teacher(s) in his high school career and he is going to have to learn to " play the game " and keep himself out of the line of fire. That's what I am working on with him right now. Last night he had A TON of homework (but he got his back up over the copying part and refused to work at school) and I just went to bed. I think he finished at midnight. I had his needle on my night stand and I told him to wake ME up when he was going to bed and I would " do " the needle. He was shocked that I would leave him up alone like that. But I said " you chose to not work at school, so you have to do it now, but for ME I was not part of this decision so I should not have to stay up with you " . He did all that work (I checked his bag already this morning). And he did a good job. He had NO help and yet he did it. It's not that he *can't*; but when he is being badgered all day long (now he absolutely refuses to eat in the classroom; I suspect the teacher is giving him a hard time when he first tries to eat and so he is avoiding being centred out in front of his classmates and avoiding the ridicule) anyway, when he's badgered like that, well Adam is a stubborn kid, he is going to refuse to work. My friend did raise a good point. If and when I get a meeting with this man and the principal and this teacher starts up with he's trying to do this and that and that to make Adam " better " I am going to take a Dr. Phil quote " and how's that working for you? " Because that is this guy's beef; it's not working. And I can follow with " but for the last 7 or 8 years teachers who follow his IEP have found THAT DOES work " . UGH. Don't get me started again. I have to go to a workshop today with our principal so I plan to ask for the meeting while we are there, but I just realized this morning that with the new school alignments that principal from my other school will be there too and I am NOT looking forward to having that man in my face. (Mind you I have already decided if it gets to be too overpowering for me and my anxiety starts to build, more that it already is) I will just " become sick " and leave. Prove it!! Sorry for the rant. Debby Re: CHAT Deb - Adam and school issues and GHT > Deb, > > I NEVER make my students copy the math questions from the board or > from the book. Guest guest
Deb - first of all - DO NOT APOLOGIZE FOR RANTING. Understand me? Secondly, don't hope to get an appointment with that principal - you are demanding one - right? Do I need to have a discussion with this teacher? I'm starting to get mad. I don't like being mad. I'm not nice when I'm mad. You can tell him that. Thirdly - about this anxiety thing. Don't go down that road - okay? Not a good idea. Please, please take a deep breath, take a time-out, realx your body and think of good thoughts. I've had anxiety attacks and they are no fun. It's very scary. So.....I've learned that I have to stop thinking entirely about the situation. You need to remove yourself from it Deb. No caffeine, No sugar, No complex carbs - No alcohol <grin> - just a little protein. Have some chicken and peas for dinner. If you are hungry - have some peanut butter on crackers. If you are still hungry - have some more chicken or beef. You can add the complex carbs and sugars tomorrow. No milk. Just water. Then, put up your feet and relax. Getting upset and anxious is not going to help your back. Now, I want you to remember what a nice person you are. How helpful you are to so many people here. How you have helped your self and your son. Remember what a great teacher you are. Remember how pretty you are. Remember what a great sense of humor you have. Remember how sweet you are. Remember how much fun you are when playing euchre with your friends. Remember how much your son loves you. Remember how much we love you. I received your e-mail - but, after this I'm going to wake up the boys, get dinner ready and clean up my house. (And hide my new shoes) <he he he>. I'll try to see how you are doing this evening. Okay? - H > > Exactly my point. I will have him for this one. Firstly due to Adam's low > muscle tone, if he is going to expend energy " writing " it should be on his > WORK and not copying.
