Guest guest
Hi all: Thank you Jodi, ee, and and everyone who took the time to welcome us to the board as new posters and new parents. This board is great and its because of all of parents like you! Brayden had his first cast today and all went well. He had just finished eating and slept through the whole casting. He is a mild case but I expected some discomfort while casting. We are hoping they all go as well. We didn't ask our doctor enough shoe questions and it seems as though he'll be out of casts in no time so I'm looking towards researching shoes and am looking for some help. (I'm sure all the answers on here on the board somewhere but at 50,000 messages strong it can be tough to find exactly what you need) Are our options at this point simply Markells or s? And if so, are there big differences? Are the shoes and bar strictly mail order? Who does the measurements? Does insurance cover shoe expenses? Thanks again. We are enjoying reading all of your experiences and looking at all the great pics! Mark//Brayden 5 days old, LCF
Guest guest
Hey Mark, you're welcome Yup, those two styles of shoes are your options. Although many, many people do use Markell with stellar results, myself, I'm a Mom. I have used Markells in the past but I'm one of the few who had bad results with them. I like the s for a couple reasons: First they weigh a lot less than the Markells, easier on both you and the baby. Also, I believe they are easier to put on and take off with 3 buckles instead of a buckle and 2 yards of shoe strings. They are a lot more comfortable in my opinion - my boys certainly thought so too - but compared to a hard heavy stiff boot the sandals of the brace are very soft, flexible, light... Rarely, but recently a few people have had issues with the causing red marks, etc., I have never had that issue at all. Everett has been in them for 2 1/2 years now, and Garrison for the past 3 months (?) and hsi wife are just wonderful people. There's never been a problem that they haven't worked round the clock to fix often at their own expense. Gotta run, baby sleepy. ee Visit Me On The Web For Clubfoot Information! http://www.wildliferevivaltaxidermy.com/ShawsPage.html 1st Cast / 2nd Post / Couple Questions Hi all: Thank you Jodi, ee, and and everyone who took the time to welcome us to the board as new posters and new parents. Guest guest
Thanks ee! Your website is unbelievable. I just spent an hour in there! What a great family and so much good info....I applaud you. So being an outdoors family, do you have cold winters? How would the sandals do in a frigid Northeast January? Funny to think of Brayden watching daddy make a snowman in the front yard with sandals on. OK, I'm going back to your site..... Guest guest
Well, I'm sure our winters do not compare to those in the northeast, but yes, we have cold weather, snow, ice.... When the baby is in the brace mostly full time there are these coats you can use that are like a sack. It covers the whole child, including the feet - sort of like a sleep sack but insulated. You can get them anywhere, from Wal-mart to Cabella's (we found camoflauge sack-coats in their catolog yesterday for about $25). By the time the child is old enough he/she can really get out to play in the snow the hours are probably going to be reduced enough he'll have time to play while the brace is off, wearing normal (snow) shoes. I think you will be surprised at how little the FAB interfers with normal life - which is really the mission of my site, to show parents that the Ponseti Method, despite the long FAB wear, is not a handicap to family fun. I'm glad you enjoy the site - and if you ever get that big trophy you want mounted, give us a call! ee Visit Me On The Web For Clubfoot Information! http://www.wildliferevivaltaxidermy.com/ShawsPage.html 1st Cast / 2nd Post / Couple Questions > > > Hi all: > > Thank you Jodi, ee, and and everyone who took the > time to welcome us to the board as new posters and new parents.
