Guest guest
Hey , Unfortunately, I spent a couple of days with my head in the bucket, so we both know that its primarily water loss, but honey, we are gonna get there together! I know it. By the way, do you mind if I ask your starting weight? My starting weight is 251 at 5'7 so I figure this will probably go fairly slow for me after the first month. The funniest thing is that I was released from the hospital at 266 pounds on Saturday, so since saturday, I have lost the 17 pounds of NEW water weight from the iv's and antibiotics and 13 of existing edema is all all gone!!! yeeee hawwww...damn i have sexy ankles and my feet no longer spill over my shoes. I thought it was fat, but indeed, it was edema! Picking you up and swinging you around! Guest guest
Hi, there. Let's see. I'm 5'7 " too, and my starting weight was 293 about 3 weeks before my surgery, at the time of my initial consultation. I didn't weigh again until after the surgery while I was in the hospital. The highest reading that I got while I was there said 312, and I thought, SHIT! I must have really been overindulging. Truth be told, I didn't completely do the " last supper(s) " thing but I didn't avoid anything I wanted, either. Anyway, on the 10th floor of Mount Sinai, they have a bunch of different kinds of scales, so while I would walk my circles around the nurses' station (IV in tow), I would hop on them occasionally. After the IV came out I started getting lower readings: 309, 303, etc. Then when I saw Gagner at one week post-op (yesterday) I came up at 282. Weird, huh? I knew that I couldn't have gained THAT much weight before surgery--NOPE, not even if I had been pigging out. Weight lost: 14 pounds of NEW " water " weight gained in hospital 11 pounds of, well, whatever (fat, I hope!) since I HAVE been busting my butt to keep hydrated So how you doing with the vitamins, protein, and fluids. Give me all the tedious details, especially when it comes to the vitamins. I'm tired of eating and drinking all the time!! Guest guest
, Did you have lap or open?
Guest guest
Totally laparoscopic. I feel incredibly good at this point, and am so glad I didn't have an open D/S. This reminds me that we're all due for a good " lap vs. open " argument! For my part, I'm ready to go, as I've accumulated what I think are proper counters to those naysayers of the lap procedure. > , > > Did you have lap or open? > >
Guest guest
, Congrats on the lap. I'm hoping to have it that way next month with Dr. Herron. Did they encourage you to lose weight prior to the surgery in order to increase the chances of a lap procedure?
Guest guest
No, they didn't, but I did anyway. Have you had any prior abdominal surgeries? I know that this is also a factor for some surgeons. I hadn't had any, but I know that that wouldn't have gotten in HIS way! MKF > , > > Congrats on the lap. Guest guest
, Whoops, my other email sent itself. Anyway, Dr Herron suggested me losing weight before surgery. I didnt, but did basically maintain what I weighed at consult. I had lap surgery, but he converted to open towards the end because he could not see if everything was quite right, and he figured an incision was better than something leaking inside. My open incision is probably about 4 inches. I do wonder if I would have lost some weight if it would have helped me not to have been opened.
