Guest guest
You can't start them too early spreading the word about non-surgical treatment for clubfoot! My daughter took a big teddy bear wearing Jonah's outgrown FAB to preschool and told everyone about how her little brother had twisted feet and the doctor used " casties " to straighten them. " Orthopedic teddy " was a huge hit with all of the kids; one of the teachers told me that lots of the kids had pretended that they had twisted feet. Sounds like your niece must be quite a sweetie with Mollie. Well, today she asked me if I would give her some information about clubfeet and how we are helping Mollie so she can tell everyone at school for show and tell. I thought was very sweet that she would want to that, it's not like anyone in her class knows about Mollie's feet (unless she's already told them)and you can't see them in the picture. I do need to try to keep it simple, they are only second graders, but I am also glad to get to spread good info. Anyway...just wanted to share. Guest guest
That's so wonderful When little kids ask me about the casts or brace I tell them his feet were born crooked and these will straighten them out. short story to share My 8 year old niece comes to my house after school 2 or 3 days a week. My seven year old was born with clubfoot and shared some of her pictures with her class, and then she brought her baby brother (who also has clubfeet and spina bifida) to show and tell. She's spreading the word! LOL The kids were interested in baby brother's feet, but they found the shunt in his head MUCH more fascinating. LOL I think I'll let her bring her old brace to show and tell one of these days if she wants. That is sooooooo sweet your niece wants to show Mollie off to her class. Guest guest
Marci, That's really great! My daughter is in Kindergarten and for her show and tell a few months ago, she brought the brochure from the hotel in Iowa City that we had just stayed at (for her check up w/ Dr. P). She told the class about her clubfoot and her doctor who was the " best clubfoot doctor in the whole world " . A teacher's assistants was in the room and heard talking about her clubfoot and immediately asked the teacher to send a note home to me on her behalf. It turns out that this family, who was displaced by hurricane Katrina, has a 2nd grader who was in desperate need of care for his severe clubfeet (surgically corrected as a baby) and new orthotics, so I was able to refer them to Dr. Dobbs in St. Louis..... all because of 's show and tell showing off the waterslide at the hotel swimming pool! You just never know when you'll be able to help another family! & (3-16-00, lcf)
Guest guest
That is what i've always told them too. There was one time at the grocery store when Mollie was in casts, there was a man with a little boy in his cart beside me. They were waiting on his wife and they little boy kept asking loudly " daddy, what's wrong with that baby? " that man was so red and embarrased he kept shushing the kid and trying to pretend he was invisible. I finally went over and talked to the boy about it and the man wouldn't even look at me. Guest guest
Yes, my nephew is 13 and the necies are 8 and 5 and they all just love Mollie and she loves the attention, but they have a new baby sister on they way now so I don't know what to expect. Any way, there's never a dull moment when there all here. Marci & Mollie Naomi wrote: You can't start them too early spreading the word about non-surgical treatment for clubfoot!
