Guest guest
My pediatrician noticed the flatness of my son's head, but kept telling me it should start rounding out as he sits up more etc. So I listened to him, but at his 9 month check up he said since it hasn't rounded out on its own, he should go see about a helmet. So we went to Cranial Tech. My son has had his band for a couple of weeks now and it's going well. If you have a Cranial Tech near you they do free evaluations. Good luck! From: shannon.gray28 <graysl1@...>Subject: Help please-just starting this processPlagiocephaly Date: Thursday, February 25, 2010, 9:44 PM Well, after trying to get my pediatricians attention about my boy's head for the last few months, he finally paid attention, sort of. I believe my son has position brachycephaly and all he did was offer to put in an order for a skull x-ray (no feeling of head, measurements, etc.) Is this really the first step or should I find another pediatrician. I am anxious to get started if we need to as he is 6 months old. Thanks for your help,
Guest guest
Hanger also does free evaluations. My pediatrician told me that she has been very pleased with the honesty of the people at Hanger - they won't tell you a baby needs a band if they don't. So, if you're worried, it doesn't hurt to check it out. From: Saiveau <jens879@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Thu, February 25, 2010 5:38:07 PMSubject: Re: Help please-just starting this process My pediatrician noticed the flatness of my son's head, but kept telling me it should start rounding out as he sits up more etc. So I listened to him, but at his 9 month check up he said since it hasn't rounded out on its own, he should go see about a helmet. Guest guest
Pediatricians aren't the ones that do the measurements. He may want an x-ray to rule out that the sutures are fused, but to go the way of a helmet, you'll need to ask for a referal to either a specialist or directly to one of the helmet places. Many pediatiricans do not know how to handle this so I'd go with whether you are pleased with how he handles other things. Mine has been great with everything else, but she really screwed up the timing by not referring us for a helmet until 12 months. So, we've stuck with her despite this. Guest guest
The only thing I would have the ped do is give you a referral for a pediatric craniofacial surgeon and let him/her decide if the baby even needs x-ray. It's the specialist who gets the measurments and will recommend a helmet if necessary. When you set up the appt you may want to ask about their experience with plagio and if pro or against helmet. I'm talking from personal experience: the first specialist we saw was set against it so it was just a waste of time that we didn't have, he also recommended a CTscan. The second specialist by feeling his head was confident the sutures had not prematurely closed, so didn't recommend any x-ray or scan. Or if a Cranialtech is close you could go to a free eval and go from there. ,Tampa,FL, 25mos. starband for 7 mos Plagiocephaly From: graysl1@...Date: Thu, 25 Feb 2010 21:44:24 +0000Subject: Help please-just starting this process Well, after trying to get my pediatricians attention about my boy's head for the last few months, he finally paid attention, sort of.
