Guest guest
Zach is 3 1/2 and is still wearing the DBB at nights (10 hours). We're heading out to Iowa this summer for a checkup. (Zach will be 4). I don't really know what to anticipate. If Dr. P tells us to wear it for another year, we'll do it without a problem. We're lucky that Zach doesn't ever make mention of the fact that he has to wear " shoes " to bed. You know, even if Dr. P tells us we'd be okay with discontinuing its use - I think we'd opt to wear it for another year. Guest guest
Holly, I hope that you didn't misunderstand.... I am not complaining about her wearing her shoes, not at all... infact it makes me feel better with her wearing them. But she really began protesting about 2 1/2 mos ago and has even gone as far as telling me she wanted to call Dr. Ponseti and tell him that she was done!!! LOL I told her that it was not up for discussion and that if she wanted to play soccer like she wants to she HAD to wear the shoes!! is the type of girl who is ALWAYS going.... I swear I think she even talks and runs in her sleep, LOL, she dosen't want to be held up by anything. Put it this way she WALKS down the stairs in her FAB!!! Talk about instant heart attack for mommy!!! LOL in Iowa, mommy to 4yrs. 11/12/01, bilateral clubfoot > > > > Is anyone else still in the FAB at night? Guest guest
, At 4 years, she is wearing them 14-16 hours? Wow, that seems like a lot for a 4 year-old. Shouldn't she be down to 12 hours? I'm just curious. My daughter just turned 2 as wears her FAB (s) 12-14 hours. wrote: Is anyone else still in the FAB at night? And not just because you want to.... but because it is still being required by your doctor? is still wearing her FAB for about 14-16 hours, and this is per Dr. Ponseti as of our last appt in August last year. We will be having our follow up on March 17 and are curious to see what he has to say. really wants Dr. Ponseti to tell her that she doesn't need to wear her " special shoes " anymore. With just reading about the Soccer and Ballet update from Theresa, it just got me curious how some of our older kids are doing! in Iowa, mommy to 4yrs., bilateral clubfoot
Guest guest
, Yes, She is still doing 14-16 hours per Dr.Ponseti.... If I am remembering right he said something about her having very strong supinators, so I would assume that is the reason she is still in the FAB so long. We go back to see him on March 17. in Iowa, mommy to 4yrs., bilateral clubfoot > Is anyone else still in the FAB at night? Guest guest
yeah, I totally read it wrong - which isn't surprising. I was leaving Zach's room the other night and he yells " Mommmmmmmmmma, you forgot to tie my shoes " - oy vey. Also, I totally didn't read that your little one was 4 - I was thinking she was younger. Why? I have no idea. Anyhoo, so THIS is what I have to look forward to eh? Zach never complains. We keep thinking it's coming - when is it coming? And he just goes with the flow. My guess is, once he gets even older he'll start to realize his little brother isn't wearing any shoes to bed and complain that he has to (keeping my fingers crossed that he doesn't). That's too funny that she'll walk down the stairs in her DBB. That would scare me to death. We don't let Zach walk in his because we kept having troubles with the screws coming loose and falling out. We've had to replace two bars early because of it. So now he's bummed because we don't even let him get out of bed wearing it, he has to yell for us and we'll take it off. Pain in the rear when he has to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Sorry for not reading more carefully - blame it on....oh I don't know. Mommy brain, something like that! Guest guest
Holly, Have you considered the PM FAB?? Jeez, it's so flat and nice for walking. Sure, wears down the bottoms but I have yet to have to *replace* the caps although I did order a set from for in case for $10. Darbi's foot is at size 6-1/2 regular shoes and her new PM's have plenty of room in the toes, about 3/4 " IIRC. is working on the larger sizes now so it's possible he could wear these till the finale. Maybe? Kori At 11:40 AM 3/4/2006, you wrote: >yeah, I totally read it wrong - which isn't surprising. Guest guest
hehehe No problem Holly! I think that has realized that her older brother dosen't have to wear shoes so why does she... And I have tried everything short of tieing her to the bed to keep her from coming down the stairs.... *sigh* I am surprised that we are still on her original bar, I thought for sure we would have had to replace it several times by now. But I think it is because she is relativly small girl! in Iowa, mommy to 4yrs. 11/12/01, bilateral clubfoot > > > > > > > > Is anyone else still in the FAB at night? Guest guest
Kori, I have yet to see a PM FAB in person.... hmmm.... I will bring up all of Becca's anticts to Dr. P the next time we are there. We would have to wait for the larger sizes though as she is wearing a 8 regular shoe. It defineatly sounds like a safer option! in Iowa, mommy to 4yrs. 11/12/01, bilateral clubfoot > > > > > > > > > > Is anyone else still in the FAB at night? Guest guest
have send you an impression kit. This would be great for him to work on designing the larger shoes. Right now the counter in the heel is a bit low, and he needs more older kids to have impressions of the heel and back calf area to be able to make these properly for older kids. He's sending me a molding sock thingie for Darbi's foot so we can figure this out, I'm sure he'd be interested in 's feet too. Guest guest
Interesting. I remember at our last visit that Dr. Tuck (who worked with Dr. P. in Iowa for several years according to all the diplomas on his wall) said something like " Dr. Ponseti never used to recommend wearing the fab until 5 yrs. old. I don't know what could have changed after all these years. " He told us originally that he (Dr. Tuck) likes the kids in the fab for a good 2-3 years after casting, " depending on how long the kid will tolerate it. " As I interpret that (I can ask at our next visit but hopefully that won't be for a few months as things are going well), keep him in the fab for at least two years - longer is great if they tolerate it well, but if they're really can't stand it anymore AND aren't showing any signs of relapse, it is ok after two years to stop, but he'd prefer 3 years. Of course, this is my recollection from visits over a year ago, so I may not be remembering/interpreting it correctly. - Seth (meir, lcf, 1/29/04, fab 12/7 - at least for the next year) At 11:49 PM 3/3/2006 +0000, you wrote: >Is anyone else still in the FAB at night?
