Basic idea-

You can wrap a blanket or towel and duct tape it around the bar

(still doesn't help with the shoe plates). Other things people have

used are car seat protectors-you know the velcro things that wrap

around the strap that protect a baby-bicycle handlebar pads, pipe

insulation with a cloth wrapped around it. I believe there is a

pattern in the file section of how you can make your own bar pad.

The sleep blanket is what we use at home(my son loves it) and it

helps pad the crib too. I am so glad though that in hindsight we had

not spent a lot of money on a crib!!

In the files section, there is a pattern to sew a bar cover. The

file is towards the bottom of the list, and is called " Reversible Bar

Cover Pattern.doc "

If you have questions let me know. My mom and I came up with this

when Aleksander got his first pair of shoes. Our ortho does put a

rubber thing on the bar too, so this is designed more to cover the

bolts somewhat, and to make the bar a little more interesting.

We use these with the sleep sack. There is also a pattern here for

the sleep sack, modified for use with the bar. Aleksander outgrew

his store bought sleep sacks almost as soon as he got the shoes, so

this pattern works really well too.

Good luck!

I don't believe that one step ahead sells the mesh netting.

You can buy it directly from www.cribshield.com or from amazon.com

(babiesrus). Just do a search on amazon for crib shield. I think I

paid around $34 for ours and got it during a free shipping

promotion. I love it. Still holding up great.

What kind of sleep sack are you using? My daughter liked it roomier

and not tight, whereas my oldest son liked being tucked in tight.

Also my children sweat at night, and did not do well in the sleep

sacks that are the heavier material or the ones that had arms.

Thank you! Naomi did an excellent job of re-writing it so people

could actually read it! LOL

And we think so too about the shoe boxes - someday perhaps? At

minimum, every orthotist should be giving it to parents at the last

casting. Working on that for sure!

Great to hear is doing so well. I got a chance to look at

those holed shoes for the first time about a week ago and I'm not

sure I like them so much. Mostly because I see no heel counter in

them and the hole's edge. What do you think? Oh, and curious... is

there padding on the tongue in these or is it just a leather

tongue? I couldn't tell very well with the ones I saw because they

lined the tongue with plastizode.

Do you think that without the sleep sack, the crib shield would

prevent nicks? I made a sleep sack out of fleece - sleevless

with a zipper. It's not tight, and I'm not sure why she doesn't like

it... I'm going to try again. I know that would pay off once she's

big too and I don't want her taking her shoes off.

I saw the mesh netting in the One Step Ahead catalog that I got

yesterday. It is on page 17 of the spring preview catalog. If you

have a different catalog, I am sure you can find it on line. I was

looking at it just last night because we have bumper pads in the

crib that is now standing on and are ready to be moved out.

He just this week learned that it is great fun to bang his bar on

the crib when he wakes up in the morning. He sleeps in a sleep sack,

too, so that helps with the noise and the distruction. The kitchen

chair his booster seat is on is another story!

Hey Kori,

The area of the shoe around the hole seems to be more padded than her

other non-hole markells. However, the tongue is not padded. We had

to add moleskin to her first pair, but her feet are staying in this

new pair now and she doesn't seem to need it. I think the little bit

of padding there is around the hole in the heel must help to keep the

shoes on.

had the Markells without the hole for a week and now has the

ones with the hole. There was the same amount of padding in both, it

seemed to me. We have a pice of plastizode in the heel and that

keeps the heel down very nicely.
