Guest guest
My son is 17 months old with plagio. We, like most parents, were told it 'would round out " - we are pursuing band therapy on monday - does anyone have any info to share on their 'older child'? Guest guest
Hi, In addition to a helmet, I would try osteopath, chiro, and/or CST. There are many emails on this topic on the list. I believe the key is to pick a highly qualified practitioner. You may want to join the group for older plagio babies OlderPlag@.... My son has gotten correction since 17 months in a helmet with alternative treatments. We believe it slowed down around 20 months. My son is now almost 21 months. Good luck. Guest guest
Well, it's definitely a disadvantage that much new skull bone has been formed without the positive influence of a helmet. There are secondary advantages, though. My older baby easily handles the weight of a helmet without a lot of cutouts, and continues to benefit from the added protection as she has learned to climb and dive off of stuff. You can " sell " the band to a 17-month old as a " pretty [handsome?] hat, " and spin the public reaction. At age 16 months, we went directly from the initial fitting to a supermarket, where sure enough, someone made a fuss and let Clara feel special. Maybe twins are more attuned to that energy than other kids, but generally, distractions are important at first. I bought a barrette to thwart escape attempts, but haven't yet needed to deploy it. It's easier for Clara to sleep with the helmet than without, though she certainly enjoys the evening shampoo, often initiating the routine. It counts as water play for both twins. Now, at 22 1/2 months, things are coming full circle, and the girls want to wear hats and sunglasses to play dress-up. The helmet is starting to cramp Clara's style just a bit. I predict that her changing motivations will coincide nicely with the conclusion of treatment at 24 months, which I think is some sort of legal limit for helmets. -- Thad Launderville Montpelier, VT Clara age 22 1/2 months, in STARband ~6 months On Feb 26, 2010, at 8:20 PM, deens19803 wrote: > My son is 17 months old with plagio. Guest guest
Hi, Does anyone know exactly what the regulations are for helmet usage? Is there a regulation against helmet usage after 24 months? Or is it that the helmet is no longer effective? Does the helmet stop working completely after the head fuses? Or does the improvement just slow down drastically due to a slowing down of head growth? Or maybe the helmet continues to be effective and it is just regulations preventing parents from using a helmet past age 2. I've never been able to figure this out. I do have to say that at almost 21 months, the progress is already pretty darn slow. At some point, maybe before age 3, the kid would probably start to be self-conscious and you would not want to use a helmet for that reason. Best, Kathy, mom to almost 21 months in Starband for now very mild plagio Thad Launderville wrote: Well, it's definitely a disadvantage that much new skull bone has been formed without the positive influence of a helmet. I am THRILLED! we are using CT, the DOC band!....she was adopted at 14 months and home at 15months from CHINA, so our time was rushed as we didn't know she had plagio. Guest guest
My son wore 2 DOCBands from Cranial Tech beginning at 17 months of age (until 24.5 months) and we saw really good results, considering his age. He did great adjusting to it, way better than I expected. His photos are in our Older Plagio Kids folder under Jake W. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck!
