Just a bit of info here.... Reglan is a med that is supposed to help with

delayed gastric emptying. If it does it's job then you would see a decrease

in reflux because the food isn't just sitting in the stomach. BUT Reglan

does have some serious side effects for children, so I would check those out

before trying it.

Zantac is in the H2A (Histamine 2 Antagonist) family of reflux meds. These

meds are supposed to neutralize the stomach acid so that reflux is not as

damaging or painful. Another med you might try in this family would be

Pepcid. One thing that some people have commented on here on the list serve

is that H2As have a tendency to lose their potency when given long term, and

sometime taking a drug " holiday " , or changing to a different med in the same

family, helps them work better.

A second family of reflux meds is the PPI (proton pump inhibitors) The meds

in this family includes Prevacid, Prilosec, Protonix, etc... and they are

supposed to destroy the pumps that create acid in the stomach. Mind you, the

pumps are always being replaced, so you have to give this family of meds

once or twice a day.

uses a combination of these two meds. He seems to aspirate his

reflux more often at night, so he take Prevacid with his evening meds. The

PPI seems to work better for him, and protects his lungs better when given

at night. He takes Zantac with his morning meds, and this seems to help, but

does not stop his reflux during the day.

Hope this helps!
