Guest guest
Hello every one, This is my first post but i have been a member of the group for few weeks now. This group has proved very valuable for me in deciding and choosing a helmet for my daughter. She is 5 months old, and was diagnosed with brachy and a mild plagio. Her numbers are: CI =95.7% and cranial vault asymmetry of 4 mm. We live in France and we had to fly to Spain to get her banded. We got the Docband from CT. From the photostudy and my own examination of her head, on top of having a flat spot on the back, she has two bumps on top of her ears, one is closer to the face and more prominent whilst the other is farther from the face but high. When they took the measurements there was no measurement that captured his deformation. However, i was sure this will show on the cast and will be taken care of. I asked the doctor many times if this problem will be treated by the band and he ensured me it will. We got her band yesterday, and since we got it it has been bothering me. She has been sweating a lot and did not sleep very well last night, she has also some red spots, but from what i read in this group that is normal. However, the shape of the band is the same shape as her head, one side is higher than the other. My conclusion from inspecting it is that there is no extra room for the side that is low to grow higher, and there is no pressure on the side that is high to prevent it from growing. So i am guessing it is only correcting her brachy. Any thought on that from parents who's kids had both plagio and brachy? doe the band treat only brachy or plagio, i read on your posts that it does both. Did they consider than 4 mm is not a problem and ignored the plagio? i have so many questions that are answered. I am planning to recontact the doctor to ask for more details but would appreciate your thoughts. Thank you. Myriam.
Guest guest
They way the docband is made they take the cast of the head then " correct " it to make a better shaped head, taking into consideration where the band needs to hold. The band is made accordingly. In general they make the most important corrections and can't ensure a perfect head since the starting point is your baby's current head. Some babies do require multiple bands, or the result from one band might not be perfect, but still good enough. I think the best thing to do is when you visit again ask about how the band was made. Maybe even call ahead and let them know this is bugging you. I believe the bands are all made at the headquarters in Arizona (US), so they can look at the details of how it was made before your appointment. It might be that this band won't address the two areas you mentioned, but the best way to find out is probably to ask the clinician about it and have him check with the headquarters if needed. -christine sydney, 3.5 yrs, starband grad > > Hello every one, > > This is my first post but i have been a member of the group for few weeks now.
