Guest guest
Hi, again. I DO know that the length of the common channel has much to do with the production of gas and/or diarrhea, but I think the nausea component is very short-lived and individualized. You shouldn't have any trouble with the 100 cm., and if you don't lose for some bizarre reason, Gagner will make it shorter. I agree with him and other surgeons who start with the 100 cm., however, because it's so much easier to be on the safe side of absorption. Gagner himself says that it's easier to shorten than to lengthen (I asked him about this in October, during my consult). Regarding the ability to measure the channel laparoscopically (and this is a touchy subject, apparently, because those advocates of open D/S claim that it can't be done as accurately): Dr. Gagner says that with his animal studies, his 100 cm. length always was within 5% when they opened the animals up afterwards. The open procedure has a 5-10% variation expectation, as does the laparoscopic. Now, this is with the lap surgeon extraordinaire. Who knows if other lap doctors have the same results. Gagner does. Incidentally, in asking him on Wednesday about his somewhat unique ability to be SO good at what he does, he answered something like this (after some prodding and pleas not to be modest): " I have this laparoscopic surgery in my blood. It's a part of me. I can understand, see, and work with the 3D images on the camera very easily for some reason. Although it's second-nature for me, it's very hard for most doctors, probably because of this hand-eye coordination ofimages on a TV screen. I'm also ambidextrous, which plays a part in my ability to do this well. " Best, From: asaz@... To: mkf5t@... Subject: Re: NO LEAK TEST!
