I know some of you may yell at me its only 1.6 lbs and say you have

cals a day, getting exersise and still gaining weight at 12 weeks

post op what will happen eating 2500 cals 1 year post op? Will I

gain it all back? Will I forever be on a diet? At this moment in

time I feel like it will happen!!!!!!!

Jody: First off, let me say that I think it's totally N ORMAL for one's body

to gain some weight (I've gained anywhere's from 1-2 to 4 lbs) in the cycle

of weight loss. Don't worry, it isn't permanant and it WILL come off again.

I'm not really sure why it happens, but it could be water retention, etc.

The body holds on to EVERYTHING it can and goes into starvation mode, even

when being 'tricked' by the surgery to lose weight. I weigh myself often and

discovered a pattern of losing a bunch of weight then plateauing for awhile.

When I plateaued, I would gain a few lbs. That's always how I knew I was on

a plateau! LOL It was like 'oh no - not this again!' :):)

Your body could be particularly sensitive to this weight loss pattern and

it's trying to maximize whatever you give it and hang on when you gain a few

pounds.

It's GREAT that you're eating more protein and watching your intake. Don't

get 'too low', though or this WILL put the body into starvation mode. Sounds

weird, I know and goes against everything we've been brainwashed about how

the body actually loses weight.... but, EAT (healthily) -- don't shove it in

if you don't feel like it but DO eat until you're full and satisfied. FOCUS

on protein and get enough in (even added shakes/bars as needed). High

protein will help speed up the metabolic process. DO eat some carbs in the

mix --- it is not healthy to go into complete ketosis (where one only eats

protein). You can limit the carbs to maximize weight loss but do have some

fresh veggies, fruit and other carbs as they suit your taste. Keep well

hydrated (which it sounds like you're doing).

All the best,

Hi Jody,

I am going through kind of the same thing. I am newer than you. I

went for my 1st PCP apointment 3 1/2 weeks post op, and I lost

26#'s. I think accoring to my scale I lost another 2. Then for the

last 2 weeks I have sat here.

I keep telling myself--that was a big drop and my body is adjusting.

I am not yet even getting no where the protein I need, not eating

enough to shake a stick at. I know that my measurements are changing,

so I have to keep my head.

I think you have starved yourself though. You need some high fat and

naughty meals to get rolling. It is too soon for the jury to be in

yet. Also, could you be premenstral? next week you may see a big

drop after the fun is done.

I remember being preop and I would see these lamenting posts and say

to myself-- " I am never going to be like that--I'm not going to

obsess " Well here I am on the other side--and I think I had a brain

transplant because I am obsessing about alot of things---protein,

eating, loss, pains, am I getting a blockage? ect......

My advice is to ignore the blip--eat better--next week is a new day!!
