Guest guest
Actually things are screwed up normally I take the 1 train to the last stop I hop on the ferry and from there I take a cab to his office.....Since Sept 11th the South Ferry station has been closed to the best of my knowledge so you have to take the 4 or the 5 or the 6 train to bowling green and then walk over to the ferry....Walking down there is weird and sad...When I was down there to go over to SI the military was camped out and there were blockades.....Just sad....Being on the ferry not seeing the WTC was hard.....As for hotels I really dont know much in that area..If I can be of help...let me know.... Since I'll be traveling from central PA and have never been to NY city, I'll need some guidance from anyone knowledgable about travelling there. If I take a train, I'll end up at Penn Station. If I take a bus, I'll end up on 8th Ave. What's my best move after that? A bus to Dr Macura's office on Staten Island? A taxi? What if I need to stay overnight? A motel in the area (they all look very expensive!)? Try to go to New Jersey which is several miles away but motels are more reasonable? Looking for any helpful recommendations here. Thanks!! +Doris in PA+ Hoping for DS ----------------------------------------------------------------------

I would call Dr. Macura's office and get that info (I'm sure they deal with people coming into the city pretty regularly) since I'm not familiar with the lines and you will need one that runs to his office in particular. You're talking about staying the night for your consult, right - not the surgery? I would think that you would definately want to be close by and that SIUH may even have somekind of recommended accomodations after your surgery... I don't know of many hotels in the area or even if there are any on SI, but there should be some bed and breakfasts or something like that... I don't think the prices on SI would be as bad as in the city. I know there's a hotel near us in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn (it wouldn't be easy to get to by car -- there is a local bus that goes to SI from Brooklyn but I think it goes up 86th Avenue and the hotel is by the Bay, not walkable). I think it's called 'Sail's Inn' or something and the prices are cheaper than the city, I'm sure. Jersey may be a good bet -- You could take a ferry on over but once again I know nothing about hotels in the immediate area..... all the best, lap ds with gallbladder removal January 25,2001 Dr. Gagner/Mt. Guest guest
Doris, I can't help you with the best way to travel to Dr. Macura. We live in PA, but in the NE near NJ. We drove in for appointments. Did you know that Dr. M also has a Brooklyn office. It might be easier to get to since you are using public transportation. Staten Island U. Hospital has a small hotel the run themselves for out-of-state patients and family. (I wonder if on stayed there. LOL). It is very inexpensive only about $55/night. I don't know if you can get a room there when you have your consult with Dr. M. The security office in the hospital handles room reservations. I hope Dr. M's office knows you are traveling so far so that they scheduled the nutritionist and everything for one visit. Guest guest
Hey Rita, I was also thinking about the Dr. M's brooklyn office except that with the B & D line running so whacked I dont know which train gets out there now....Doris the phone # to the MTA is you can call and you will get EXCELLENT directions to get to either of his offices...Interestingly enough I have found that getting to his SI office takes me less time than his brooklyn office go figure...
