Guest guest
My husband and I thought everything was going well with our son's DBB. He's been wearing Markell boots with a gold bar for 11 days now since he came out of his casts. He is in the brace 23/7. For the first few days, he had some small red marks on his feet that went away when he had the brace off. Over the weekend he's developed some large red marks on his ankles and heels from what appears to be rubbing from boots that are slipping. We are being very meticulous about HOW those boots go on and how far back/down his heels are. Could the rubbing be from the fact that the boots are still fairly new and he's wearing them in? We are treating the red areas with Lasinoh and this seems to have stopped the marks from getting any worse. We are also taking the boots off for 30 mins in the morning and night, instead of one hour in the evening. This also seems to be helping. Our orthosist gave us stocking tubing (made by KnitRite) to use instead of socks in the beginning. Instructions were to use the tubing until we got good at putting on the boots. My husband and I switched to Old Navy socks on Saturday ... and this too seems to be cutting down on the irritation to Zachary's feet. We are awaiting an appointment with the orthosist this week and we are looking at getting into the sandals. Does anyone have any further suggestions to help us??? mom to Zachary (06/01/29 -- bcf)
Guest guest
- Congrats are reaching the bracing phase with Zachary's treatment! It is possible that you may not have the shoes on tight enough. His feet may have been swollen after the final cast removal and now that he is used to freedom from casts-his little tootsies have shrunk thus needing the shoes to be on tighter. Have you read the pdf file of tips/tricks with pictures? it sounds like you have since you switched the old navy socks. I would double check his feet after you put him in the fab. If his feet still move when you push down on his knee, then his shoes are not on tight enough. As kori likes to say- blisters are caused by friction and friction means movement. Way to go on the lasinoh ointment-it does wonders for blisters-when his feet are free, make sure to take his socks off so his little tootsies get some air! Hope this helps and good luck with his orthotist appointment! kathleen mom to david bcf fab 12/7 20 mo old > > My husband and I thought everything was going well with our son's > DBB.
