if it is red and raw now i would definatley leave it off. I wonder if it could be from something else since you said it started out as just flakey but not red, not sure why that would happen, maybe a dry skin problem ? if the helmet is rubbing it would be red and usually there would be a red pressure mark befor you would see any skin breakdown or rawness. did you use anything other than alcohol to clean the band? let us know what they say.leFrom: carrie_fl4 <carrie_fl4@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Wed, February 24, 2010 8:05:02 PMSubject: Question re: skin breakdown

My daughter just got her first DOC band check yesterday after 1 week of wear. She had done well so far, a couple of red spots the first couple of days that would go away within an hour of having it off for skin checks.

The therapist/clinician that we had see at all previous appointments was unfortunately out due to a car accident. Another staff member (whom I assumed had the same experience/training ) did her check and adjustment of the band.

This morning when I took the band off to do her neck stretches there was a small spot where the skin was peeling/flaking off. It was not red at all but I called CT and spoke to the same woman I saw yesterday and she was not worried if it was not red. Then when I took it off this evening it was now red and raw. They were closed so I have left it off for tonight until I speak to them tomorrow.

Does anyone think that it could be as a result of this woman not knowing what she was doing? Or, is this a normal thing that can happen at any point during the process? I am of course just neurotic and have heard that the results all depend on who does the adjustments. I would love to hear from any parents who have been through this and know what to expect.

Thank you!!!

Hi le!

Everything is now fine, thanks for your response! I left it off that night, they called me in the AM and told me to come in that day but put it back on so they could see when we got there. It already looked much better in the morning and was a little red again (but not raw looking like the evening before) by the time we got to them in the afternoon.

They adjusted her band in that spot, had us wait with it on about 30 min and checked again. It was fine! They told me to monitor the spot and it has been fine since then. (That was Thursday)

I had not used anything but 91% alcohol to clean her band and I'm not sure why the skin started flaking initially. (That was a spot that got red on the initial every three hour skin checks when she got the band the week before.) But whatever it was, the spot there was irritating the skin.

thanks again!
