Guest guest
In today's San Mercury News Food Section, there is a great article about celiac disease, gluten-free cookbooks and a couple of recipes. I have been e-mailing Kim Boatman, who writes this column. She just e-mailed me the below letter she received from Joanne from Union City. Evidently, the chef at The Grill at the HP Pavilion will make you a gluten-free meal. Terrific! PLEASE let your readers know that Chef Craig Coe at The Grill at the HP Pavilion will make gluten free meals for them. Usually there is one on the menu but if not, call the day of your reservation and let him know and he will cook something special for you. As a vegetarian by choice and gluten free by force, I can tell you Chef Coe has been a life saver. Eating out is so difficult because you never know if there will be a trace a gluten--and a trace is all it takes to make you sick. He has even looked up celiac disease on the internet so he knows all about it and so far, everything he has made me has been delicious. At least two waiters, and , are familiar with gluten free concepts, you can ask to sit in their sections. Also, there is a magazine called "Living Without" for people with food allergies. Celiac disease isn't exactly an allergy, it's an auto-immune disorder but the editor is a celiac and the magazine is for people with all types of food disorders. Maybe your food editor could give people like us some column space every week..we are everywhere and it is so frustrating to love food and not be able to enjoy it fully. I would be happy to share some of my recipes, shopping and restaurant tips and I'll bet others would too. Please let people know about Chef Craig Coe--my quality of life skyrocketed when I could eat a wonderful meal out again.
