Guest guest
I don't know about Dr. Sponseller personally but if you check out messages 39587 & 41246 (on the group's website) - there is one mom who has had some experience with him. You might want to email her directly if you don't get anyone commenting on your question. Guest guest
HI~ I saw your message regarding Dr. Sponseller. I am not sure if you guys are going to him already, but we started treatment for my daughter Madilyne (we call her Maddie) at Hopkins. Saw Dr. Sponseller. I do want to say that he is a very good doc! Going to Hopkins for me made me realize some of the amazing work that he does. One of the best Ped Orthopedists in the area; however, I learned that clubfoot is really not his speciality. He does use the peel away fiberglass casts, not the plaster. Changes casts every 10-14 days, and leaves the post tenotomy cast on for 2 weeks, rather than three. He leaves the brace on full time for ONE month vs. three. Maddie was fitted for her shoes buy the lady in the shoe store, we had the wrong size bar. He saw her before we put her in the brace(DDB and shoes), so I was just going by what he lady in the store told me. We just peeled off the casts and tried to figure them out on our own. Then after problems started, we could not get an appointment, I could go on.... We saw him for three months. It was not until I found this forum that I realized that she was not receiving the treatment that she needed. Long story short, we now see Dr. Herzenberg at Sinai Hospital. He works closely with Dr. Ponseti. He is a lot different than Dr. Sponseller. Way more informative. His clubfoot clinic is every Fridays (so you are there with other clubfoot babies), and I have never had any problems getting an appointment. The first time we saw Dr. H he spent over 45 mins talking to us about Maddie and examining her. I don't think I ever saw Dr. Sponseller for more than 15 mins.... he is SOOO busy. I am not sure of your specific situation, but I know that Dr. Sponseller had other patients relapse following their casting. I personally met two other sets of parents whose children relapsed. He told me that sometimes you need to go back and forth between casting and shoes (NOT TRUE). When all of this was happening, I did not know any better. Now I know better and I wish everyday that I would have gone to Dr. H sooner. Sinai is SO close to Hopkins, I would recommend that you go to see Dr. Herzenberg. He is very good! Several of his patients are on this board, that is how I found him. Please contact me is you have any questions/ comments!!! Kim > > > > I just went to HOPKINS and met w dr. sponseller. Guest guest
Ahhh so there you go.....I didn't realise that you were near such a good Ponseti doctor. Folks travel hundreds if not thousands of miles to receive Ponseti treatment, that's why I feel so greatful to have a Ponseti trained doctor in my city I promise you that you will not be disapointed with Dr. H, he has a ton of experience treating club foot. The difference between Ponseti & non-Ponseti treatment is huge. It makes such a difference to have those little feet in the hands of a great doc! I would strongly urge you to take your little one to Dr. Herzenberg!! & Grace > > > > > > > > I just went to HOPKINS and met w dr. sponseller.
