A good way to 'sneak in' at least 12-20+ gms is to have a yogurt int he am and have 2 glasses of milk or so a day.... Liquid protein (and not just powders -- but soy milk and milk) are good ways to get the stuff down without really realizing it. I started out with Lactaid fat-free... I'm not sure if that's the only reason I didn't have any reactions to it, but I'm sure it didn't hurt? Guest guest
, I am sitting here drinking a can of Atkins Chocolate Delight Protien drink. it is the only one that I can drink--it actually goes down good. I wasted money on all these stupid bars--Luna yuck---I'm not much of a granola or candy bar eater and these things go down like rocks. You can get the Atkins drinks at Walmart or GNC. I drink a can and 1/2 for 30gr protein extra. I split it up. I just can't eat enough real food yet to get enuf protien. Pammi > I know. It's a provocative and inflammatory subject line. Guest guest
OK, Pammi. Why not? I've tried everything else and I am going to Walmart tomorrow. I'll let you know how it tastes. Guest guest
Thanks, . It's awfully nice of you to respond to me when your mama's doing so poorly. I am sorry to hear about what's happened. My mom's going in for surgery in 2 weeks and she's 55. I know that there are also others around that age who are braving the " knife. " Maybe these examples could serve as inspiration for her. Yeah, I do like yogurt. I love milk, but really want to drink it WITH food, but when I do that there's little room for the food itself. Maybe one day I can drink milk with food again? Like brownies and pie and cookies? Best, > : How are you with dairy? Guest guest
I too have found that the only protein drink I can stomach is the Atkins premixed ones in the can. They can get pricey but I just picked up 40 of each flavor for $1.88 on the web. Guest guest
, honey, you only had surgery a couple weeks ago! You don't have to get in that 62 grams of protein just yet! Just concentrate on getting in protein first. If you can't, then just concentrate on what you CAN eat that doesn't upset your stomach. I'm 3 weeks and one day out and I do try to eat protein first but some days my stomach is just too upset and so I have mashed potatoes or something smooth like that. You're still healing and will be for awhile. It'll get better! I'm able to eat a new food almost everyday now. Just one week will make a difference. Try to have patience. Hugs! Guest guest
Just a side point--the Atkins is made from whey protein which I hear is supposed to be better---do I know why? Can't remember----duh! > > > I know. It's a provocative and inflammatory subject line. But > I'm > > > starting to feel this way. I can't even get past 62 grams of > > protein > > > in a day. Guest guest
Second thought---I got 4 cans for 7.86 at Walmart--only 30cents more. Does the Cappacino flaver come in premixed cans? Guest guest
No, just vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. I've never tried the stuff I have to mix. > Second thought---I got 4 cans for 7.86 at Walmart--only 30cents > more. Guest guest
Thanks, Tracey. Maybe I am being too much of a freak about all this so soon. Reminds me of Hull when he tried to walk while still in the recovery room because he was afraid of embolisms. I am the same way! You shoulda seen me trying (and crying about) dragging my sorry butt out of the hospital bed right when I got to my floor. (Love ya, Chris!) OK--deep breath. I will try not to go nuts about this (at least for another hour)! Love, > > I know. It's a provocative and inflammatory subject line. But I'm > > starting to feel this way. Guest guest
Dear : Yes, you will again have milk with your food and that includes brownies, pies and cake never fear. I am sitting here eating an ice cream sandwich and it is yummy but I still find it interesting that about 3/4 of the way through and sometimes after only a couple of bites I want something that is protein instead like meat although I do like cottage cheese with pineapple and will eat that instead of something sugary sweet. As your new system changes you will find that you will eat more and even more importantly a broader range of things. It is fine to eat carbs with your protein just try to eat more protein than carbs and if you don't well there is always the next time. I am 3 years post-op this coming January 13th and I still eat every 3-4 hours and that seems to suit my body so that is how I eat and Dr. A and Carole have told me that is the best way to eat anyway and as you can see from my stats this has worked for me. The other thing I have always done is eat fats I eat a lot of them everyday and mostly my system does well with them and I get the wonderful benefits of having great tasting food. You hang in there and keeping asking those questions. Huggles, Tiger Lake Female 160 lbs. BMI 21.7 224lbs gone 165 1/2 inches gone 6' -- 53yrs young Dr. Anthone@USC So. Calif. How bizzare... my body really does crave protein much more but I still have moments where I just want 'something sweet'. Sometimes the real thing isn't as appealing as fruit yogurt or, like you mentioned, cottage cheese with fruit! Wild! all the best, lap ds with gallbladder removal January 25, 2001 Dr. gagner/Mt.
