Guest guest
Hi, I had a promising interview today and was supposed to hear in 2 weeks when I was coming back for a second...well I left the interview at 12 and by 5 had a email asking me to call tomorrow and set up followup interviews. I can't believe it! I've been lookign for a while and haven't had much luck finding close to home (I don't want to commute back to Boston 1+ hrs a day). And my current job is just getting worse after the layoff of 63% of the company in May so I just applied to a posting they had for sales/marketing because I saw they were so close to home even though I wasn't qualified (I was hoping they would have something else avial = and they did!! Apparently they liked my resume and was the only one with client service experience - go figure - they asked for sales and mkting so I am the only candidate and they haven't posted to monster either!) Anyway, it is a small company - about 20 employees and privately owned (husband and wife). They create customer relationship management software for asset management firms (I am currently in client services in a financial company). I know if Emerence goes on GH she'll see her endo every 3 months. PLus she might get sick. I tend to be an honest person and my thought is to get to the point where they offer the job and then say I will be taking probably " x " number of 1/2 or full days for dr appts. Or is that just a bad idea and killing my chance at the job? Has anyone out there changed jobs with an SGA/RSS child??? THANKS , mom to 5 and Emerence
Guest guest
Hi , I have changed jobs a number of times. I would not bring it up. On the other hand, if they ask, tell them about your daughter and that you need to take sometime off for Drs. appointments. Don't try to name a specific number because you never know how many days you will need. However, if you feel you must mention your daughter without being asked, tell them she has a growth disorder and that you may need sometime off for doctors etc. Again, don't try and be specific. Don't try and hide anything, but on the other hand don't be volunteering a lot of personal information. Just keep focused what the job is and how you can use your vast skills and experience to solve their problems. Try and relate what you have done to their needs. I hope this helps. Guest guest
Does the company give regular allotments of annual or sick leave? You might not take off much more of those kinds of leave than their employees with large families. Perhaps it isn't something you'd need to say unless specifically asked. Guest guest
I just switched jobs about two years ago. In my interview I took the stance that I was interviewing them as much as they were interviewing me and I think it really helped. I did tell them that I am a hard worker and always make my deadlines - but I told them that if I get a call that one of my kids is sick, I pick up my purse and leave because that is my priority. I don't want to be in fear of losing a job because I have to leave. I did tell them that I had several medical emergencies with Zoe when she was a baby. I told them that I get my work done even if it means working from home or coming in at midnight. They told me later that was what sold them on me. I was honest and they could tell I was making sure they were the right fit for me and my family. I really think that helps. This company is self insured and still hired me knowing the Zoe had a growth disorder. (mom to Zoe and lurking late at nightto catch up) > Hi, > > I had a promising interview today and was supposed to hear in 2 > weeks when I was coming back for a second...well I left the > interview at 12 and by 5 had a email asking me to call tomorrow and > set up followup interviews. Guest guest
To all those working moms....... My husband and I comment all the time how much we admire all of you mom's who work - and - hold second jobs with not just our children - but also with our special needs children. My husband usually gets me to " shape up " when I'm feeling sorry for myself by mentioning - " hey, think of those mom's who work too! " . I just want you all to know that you are ALL doing a fantastic job - and to be honest, I probably couldn't do what you do - work and deal with the children. Kudos to all of you. You are greatly admired. Okay - my boys are playing in the laundry room sink making a huge mess, yesterday I flooded the kitchen, my custom drapes that were installed yesterday are the wrong color, and the well we drilled 640 feet into the ground is DRY. LOL LOL Can you believe I'm actually in a good mood today ?? - H > > Hi, > > > > I had a promising interview today and was supposed to hear in 2 > > weeks when I was coming back for a second...well I left the > > interview at 12 and by 5 had a email asking me to call tomorrow > and > > set up followup interviews. Guest guest
Oh, this is a tough one. I have always said honesty is the best policy. However, when you need a job! I was offered a job out of the blue 14 years ago that wanted me to start two weeks before my wedding (and planned two week honeymoon). Of course, I had to be honest. However, I am not sure you want to be honest in this situation. Because there is more at stake than just how many days off -- it is a health insurance situation too. Does it have to be you everytime taking her to the endo checkups? I guess I would recommend MINIMIZING it. You could say that your daughter has a growth disorder which involves a doctor's checkup every 3 months. The fact is that every parent with kids has kids who get sick and have to go to the drs. But you can be honest up front about the 4 1/2 days -- be willing to take the time off without pay (just say that, but you will probably have accrued time by then anyway). But I would NOT go anywhere near mentioning the growth hormone, I would NOT discuss how many times she has been in the hospital, etc. Just me.... Guest guest
Hello! I can't believe your area is that dry...there should be a water table there somewhere! I don't remember it being t hat dry anyway, but then again I escaped home to MA for summer breaks anyway! Actually, I admire all the SAHMs...I just would not be able to do it. I am not create enough to stay home and do wonderful projects with my kids! I am so lucky that we love our daycare - lots of time on the playground and a lot of educational stuff. And, my mom has them 1 day a week so that really helps. Although, frankly where most of us work I'm sure we feel like we are reasoning with a 2 year old having a tantrum now and then! HOwever, I must say that all my SAHM friends have very organized houses...should anyone ever visit me please be warned its clean but not picked up... , mom to , 5 starts K Monday and Emerence 2.5 22 lbs 32 " > > > Hi, > > > > > > I had a promising interview today and was supposed to hear in 2 > > > weeks when I was coming back for a second...well I left the > > > interview at 12 and by 5 had a email asking me to call tomorrow > > and > > > set up followup interviews.
