Guest guest
Sorry I meant Markells we are not lucky enough to have the s!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wishful thinking I think!!! -- Connor Hi All I don't know if any of you remember but I have had terrible trouble keeping Connor in his s over the last 6 months. I have resorted to taping him in them every night which is a right mess in the mornings. Anyway, a friend of mine who is a Physio and just started using the Ponseti method suggested I tried him with NO SOCKS on. I thought she was mad but as I am at the end of my tether I tried it and heyho he has had them on for 2 whole nights. He told me he tried to get his shoes off and he couldn't - so for us this seems to be the answer. He has white marks on his feet in the mornings but they are gone within minutes where as he was getting red marks on the tops of his feet before which never went. I just thought I would I would share. For any of you having trouble with little ones who can just 'slip' their feet out even when taped in try this!!!!! Guest guest
I am new to this group and am completely at my whits end with our 13 month old son's ability to kick off his boots (his good foot) every single night. Are you in the " Dobbs brace " or what exactly are " s " - the lace ups? I am going to try this new no sock idea tonight. We have tried truly truly truly everything but not the no sock idea!!!! Guest guest
Can you tell me more about his brace? Is it the Dobbs bar (articulating) with Markell shoes or AFO's? It sounds like, if you have the white shoes that maybe you need to tighten it some. The good foot, should not kick out! I will send you a copy of the FAB tips brochure and give that a read through and let us know if you can apply any of the tips there. Something should help... assuming you have the white boots. Also, if you have any pictures of him in his brace, that may help us troubleshoot this with you a little better. Guest guest
The Markells are the plain white lace up boots with the straight adjustable bar - Good luck it worked for us and I KNOW he has been trying to get them off cause he told me - hehehe!!! Guest guest
Just a thought here, our daughter is also unilateral (right) and her non-cf is much narrower than her cf. I have to do the laces on that foot much much tighter. My suggestion would be: When you order your next pair of shoes, get your orthotist to get a narrow Markell shoe for your son's non cf. Guest guest
lol Rach... I'm glad you have found a solution but I think you may be in for some stink foot soon! I saw on the TalipesUK list a few weeks back that a dad posted he did this too. To be honest, it's kinda weird to think that doing this wouldn't cause some kind of sore but if it works, then more power to you! Connor's feet are nice and mature now so it's probably not an issue with him not all baby fat foot anymore. Let us know how this works for you long term, let's hope it's smooth sailing from here on out! I am still a bit confused though, I know that many people are using the PM's there in the UK now and I thought that the national healthcare would purchase them, or at least part of them for y'all. What exactly is the barrier to getting him new shoes and changing them to PM's? Sorry if you already answered this, I am swimming with who is who (not you of course! I know who you and Connor are... you have Darbi's size 1 Markells :~} ), what is what, and what was said when on these lists... as usual. Guest guest
Here is the link to the Dobbs brace guide as well. http://members.tripod.com/ponseti_links- ivil/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/dobbs_brace_guide2.pdf (if the link doesn't work because it is too long you may have to cut and paste into the address bar). A key factor in baby being able to kick out of his shoes, no matter what type they are, is bar length. I would make absolutely sure that the bar is heel to heel as wide as his shoulders. If you sit the brace down, bottom of shoes to the floor, you can then lay baby on top and see if his shoulders fit comfortably (not squished) between the heels of the shoes. I have lots of experience with both set ups for the Dobbs brace so I'm sure I can help you. Have you been back to the orthotist for help? Have you met with Dr. Dobbs or his nurse a to try to resolve the problem? Let us know more and we'll get this thing figured out. Hang in there! > > > >Sorry I meant Markells we are not lucky enough to have the > >s!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guest guest
hi Kori I think you can get the s in the UK but they are £100 dearer so of course because the NHS are struggling with their budgets they will go for the cheaper options. Our Physio said something about not being able to get the contract to supply them to Bath so she is looking at getting some similar from Germany. I think it will happen but it all takes time here !!!!!! Guest guest
We have tried the no sock idea (with the Dobbs brace) for the last four nights on the foot our son kicks off every night, and so far our Connor has slept through the night 3 out of 4 of those nights! Amazing! I started to worry about blisters so I cut off his sock above and below the ankle so it only only covers his heal, giving him the grip from bare skin so he doesn't slither on out of there but covering the heal to prevent blisters. So far (a few days mind you) this is working!!!! Guest guest
Hi I hope you don't mind me chiming in here but this issue makes me slightly mad (not at you but at the NHS!) there really isn't any reason your hospital shouldn't be able to get the s (apart from if they don't want to pay the extra money). The hospital doesn't need any type of contract to get them as they can be supplied for just one child if that's all that is needed. All they will need to do is contact Stella at Cpro direct. You could even contact her directly if you need more info to persuade your hospital. We have the s for our son, given to us by Naomi , (ponseti listed doctor) and they really are considered the best for 'problem' feet. I'm also 100% sure that Dr Ponseti himself would tell you to get the s if you emailed him with your problem. They have been developed directly with Dr Ponseti and who makes them is always listening to parents using them and making any adjustments that are felt necessary. Obviously I can't comment directly on the boots you are talking about from Germany but I have heard that they have been reports of issues with them rubbing / slipping etc. this of course might be something the company has overcome now but if you believe in your heart your child should really be given the chance to try the s I would really start questioning your hospital. I know the NHS is struggling to pay for everything but I tend to think I pay my taxes and when it comes to my son's feet and comfort they aren't the one that have to deal with the repercussions of poorly fitting boots. Sorry for my rant!!! The rubbish our doctors will tell us makes me SOOO mad!! Kathy > > > >Sorry I meant Markells we are not lucky enough to have the > >s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
