Guest guest
Hi Deb, Well, long-time-no-talk. Life got in the way big time around here. Long, long, long, long story. Can't " talk " too long, but have a couple of suggestions. First of all, this will all be history next year. Once Matt got to high school, the world changed for him in a wonderfully positive way. I cannot believe the difference between the high school teachers and the elementary teachers he had. Totally awesome teachers now! Matt is using his lap top whenever he wants. No problem. Can't play a wind instrument in music. No problem. He plays either the " bells " (like a mini xylophone) or the drums. If the school doesn't have a set of " bells " , then go rent him a set, bring them in, and get him involved in that class. Tell the teacher that this is Adam's right, it's no skin off the teacher's nose, and he needs to find percussion music for Adam. That should give the teacher something to do other than pick on Adam. Adam has a right to be involved in all school activities. You know and I know and you and I both know that that teacher knows it! As far as the eating, get a hold of CCAC. Get the dietitian from CCAC involved. Tell them it is an emergency and your son is not being allowed to eat at school as he must do. Get him/her to talk to the teacher that Adam must eat, and he must eat in class. Then get it in writing. This is not a big deal. The teacher is making it a big deal because he is a jerk. Hey lady, you are the one who got me on the IEP path with Matt. I cannot thank you enough. He graduated from Grade 9 with honours. He is now in enriched Math and Science in Grade 10. The teachers love him. He is growing. He is happy. I was so glad to kiss the elementary years good bye. I couldn't have a better bunch of teachers than we have now. Don't give up. Fight all you have to. Adam's good times are coming. In a couple of months, you will be helping him to fill out his course selections for high school. Tell him it is all good from there. Matt couldn't wait to get out of Grade 8. It is a difficult year, and the kids can be real trouble to our kids. Grade 9 - totally different! Tell Adam it wills soon be done, that he just has to hang in. It WILL get better. Hugs. Gail P.
