I couldn't eat much of it at first but it was a welcome change from the other things (mainly dairy -- cottage cheese, cheese, milk, soy milk, etc.). You can also try tuna fish... I think the salads would be fine as well (I just don't like salads so I never tried them). There was this great soup (I think it was Progresso) called Chickarina. It had little, oh-so-soft meatballs in it... and pretty high protein for a soup (I can't remember, but I think it may have been 7 gms/serving)... you can sip a little of that and have the meatballs... They were delicious (made mainly of soy, I think). all the best, lap ds with gallbladder removal January 25, 2001 Dr. Gagner/Mt. Guest guest
Hi Amy...I think most post ops will assure you that you have sufficient protein on board the body to manage for the first few weeks..no point in spazzing about the protein issue right off the bat. More importantly is the water issue and making yourself walk...I was told " walk walk walk, sip sip sip " for my first few weeks. It's done very well for me. Also, most of us have been the " things taste strange " route post op. Many foods that I ate regularly before my Ds tasted and still taste strange. Some things I haven't been able to develope a taste for, such as coffee and crystal lite drink. Take it easy for now, eat what you can and follow the food program you doc gave you..I was on pureed/soft foods for 3 weeks so I'm a bit shocked at your bologna! But, OTOH, I have read of others who had hamburgers right after surgery. I guess I had a tender tummy and more conservative surgeon. Be well and enjoy your new lifestyle, most foods you love will be there for you in a few months or even a few more weeks! elle in oregon-4 and a half months post op and gone from sz 24 to 16..I love this surgery! > Well, I'm home 5 days now...and struggling a bit with protein. > Oh, one thing that does sit well with me, turkey bologna (okay, only > 3 gms a slice) but I usually get one in a day. >
Guest guest
Wow amy you can down an Zero Carb Isopure...I tried I took the first sip and then I went and dumped the rest down the drain.....I admire anyone who can drink those drinks... Lisbeth aimtall wrote: Well, I'm home 5 days now...and struggling a bit with protein. I managed to get down a Zero Carb Isopure yesterday (in three sittings) - but the smell of it is icky, even though it's fruit flavored. So, along with some tuna salad or egg salad...is it too early to try beef jerky? Any other suggestions? Oh, one thing that does sit well with me, turkey bologna (okay, only 3 gms a slice) but I usually get one in a day. Thanks! Guest guest
Amy, Beef jerky is about the only thing that has continuously stayed down for me since day one! Just chew it up good! Sinai advised that I wait until 3 weeks post-op -- and she knew that I wasn't having any negative reactions to foods... I'm not saying it is impossible, but just be careful with seafood/shrimp and other meats (heavy ones like chicken/beef/pork). The only meat I had early on (in the first three weeks) was very moist meatloaf/meatball and tuna. I guess if one can have tuna, why not the shrimp? Especially if it's chopped up well and soft??? Not sure, but I waited three loooooong weeks to have my beloved dim sum again! ROFL all the best, lap ds with gallbladder removal January 25, 2001 Dr. Gagner/Mt. Guest guest
Well, I can't say that it was completely " pleasant " - there's an odd smell to them. I tried another flavor today (I have four cases of the stuff sitting in my dining room - my neighbor co-manages a gym and got me a deal) - and this flavor had the same odd smell. I'm hoping in a couple weeks, it won't smell as errrrr...icky to me! ;-) Amy Well, I'm home 5 days now...and struggling a bit with protein. Guest guest
Thanks T!!! Both that, and the shrimp, sound pretty good. I just managed 1/2 cup of cottage cheese, that wasn't horrible. Guest guest
Hey, Luscious Lips (aka ), I had Three Treasures soup pureed by DW in the blender just one week post-op, and it was FAB! No adverse reactions. --Steve At 2:51 AM +0000 12/18/01, ma2two wrote: >...Steve: I really, really wanted shrimp early on (the har gao dim sum >shrimp dumplings to be exact). The nutritionist at Mt. Guest guest
Hi Amy! Do you like fish? It goes down really easy for most people. Good luck!
