Guest guest
, You have things exactlly how she like them. I made her a binder the first time we went with all the things in it that you have and she was very pleased with that. It makes things much easier for her. Oh yeah and no matter how perpared you are she will still have you there for hours LOL. Good luck Chrissy
Guest guest
, Chrissy is right. You sound like you are well-prepared in exactly the way Dr. H. likes things to be. But keep in mind that no matter what you do, she will find something else that she wants you to get for her. It's just her nature. She has not changed in the 17 years we have been going to see her. Bring a smile, lots of things to do in case you have to wait and snacks for the kids and yourself. Prep them and tell them not to whine or interrupt. If you don't, then Dr. H. will tell them to stop and she's not always nice about it. And when you bring snacks, make sure they are healthy ones. I know that when we give Max a trail mix kind of snack here, we put some chocolate chips or m & ms in it. But when we see her today, his mix will be minus the chocolate. It's not worth the hassle. (Aren't I sneaky?) Live and learn. Jodi Z
Guest guest
The first time we saw Dr. H. Adam was 8. We had gotten up at 5:30 a.m. and drove to Chicago (10 hours) with no long breaks, just quick bathroom stops. We didn't get to finally see Dr. H until close to midnight our time. Adam had been up almost 24 hours by then!! HE was completely off the walls. I can still see him crawling like a dog around Dr. H's " tent " . LOL Well she lit into him like there was no tomorrow about acting his age and on and on. I was mortified. I tried to say 'cut him some slack, he's been cooped up in a car for 10 hours' but she was having none of that!!! So when we went again in 2004, I major MAJOR bribed Adam first. I forget now, what I promised him, but I know I said " NO wandering, no asking a bazillion questions, no TOUCHING her weighing equipment....just SIT THERE " . Well he was almost perfect. He noticed someone had brought her some veggies to eat and he decided he would like to eat her food!! I was, again, mortified and was terrified that would set her off again (I could just hear " this child is too precocious, how dare he want someone else's food etc etc etc " ) Instead, she dead stopped what she was doing, got a plate for him, put some of her food on it for him and then spent ages trying to decide what kind of " dip " to give him!!! Blew me away. The moment was short lived though, she turned and gave me a tongue lashing saying that Adam's bone age could NOT be that delayed and I better get her the actual X rays to see!!! LOL she is quite the character. But her expertise far out weighs her quirks. But it's better to be prepared!! Deb Re: Question about Dr. H appointment > , > > Chrissy is right. Guest guest
hey heather!! the first time we saw her we had waited 2 1/2hrs for our appt. christopher was 3 at the time, very hyper. well when we got back to her she was pissed at the nurses because no one came out and weighed him or measured him while we waited!! so the tone was set!! he then kept saying he wanted to go home, she turned around told him to stop whining that she didnt tolerate whining!! my husband almost fell over!! she then told my hubyy to take him out to the waiting room because she couldnt type with all his whining!! we have had better visits since then with her. christopher responses right away to her when she tells him to do something or to stop doing something (actually i think i am going to record her voice!!). make sure you have something for yourself to eat as well, since you will be there for awhile!! she does have a nice cabinet of toys in her exam room for the kids but there really isnt much in the small waiting area, just a TV. jodie c
Guest guest
Chrissy - thanks for responding. That's good to know. It's probably a good thing she has us there so long - I would think it's because she's thorough and doesn't want to miss anything - I like that. How's Maddy? And, how are you? How's your back/disk? Thinking of you. - H > > , > You have things exactlly how she like them. I made her a binder the first > time we went with all the things in it that you have and she was very pleased > with that. Guest guest
Jodi - thank you for the response. That's very good information as well. I will definately make a note of it. We are leaving at home or with a relative in DC because he would be difficult to bring along - just his age and I know he would interrupt way too much. I'll just bring Ian a new toy and book and some other older stuff and he will be happy. Thank you so much. Thanks too about the chocolate - that's all Ian likes to eat sometimes and I may have to give it to him if we are there too long because it's the only thing that will keep him happy sometimes. But, I will make sure I do it as a last resort! - H > > , > > Chrissy is right. You sound like you are well-prepared in exactly the > way Dr. H. likes things to be. Guest guest
Deb - yikes!! I hope she's mellowed out some!! I better take some meds for myself before I go! LOL LOL Hope I don't get my period that week! LOL LOL Anyway, thanks for the info - I appreciate it. All the info I can get is great. I better get the actual x-rays too from Ian's recent GI stuff if I can. Better safe than sorry. Thank you so much. - H > > > The first time we saw Dr. H. Adam was 8. Guest guest
Thanks Jodie - I appreciate the response. Okay, so I need food, toys and meds for me! Guest guest
How timely... I have my first appt. w/ Dr. Harbison next month and was wondering what to expect. I guess I have a better idea now My appt is at 8:30 AM so I'm hopeful that she won't be too far behind. Does she meet w/ parent(s) and child first and then w/ parents afterward? I am concerned because my little guy (Jack) is a very " busy " boy and I'm trying to have a friend meet me so that I can pass him off after she examines him so that I can focus on what Dr. H is saying w/o worrying about my son whining and interrupting. Any thoughts? How long do the appts. tend to run once Dr. H sees you? How much time does she spend examining and then talking afterward to parents? Do you think that I will have to wait 2 hrs. if my appt. is at 8:30? I don't know how I will contain Jack fro that length of time. I'm feeling anxious already --- Jodie wrote: > yes and a drink after!!! > > jodie c > > > > > > > > hey heather!! > > > the first time we saw her we had waited 2 1/2hrs > for our appt. > > > christopher was 3 at the time, very hyper. well > when we got > back > > to > > > her she was pissed at the nurses because no one > came out and > > weighed > > > him or measured him while we waited!! so the > tone was set!! he > > then > > > kept saying he wanted to go home, she turned > around told him to > > stop > > > whining that she didnt tolerate whining!! my > husband almost > fell > > > over!! she then told my hubyy to take him out > to the waiting > room > > > because she couldnt type with all his whining!! > we have had > > better > > > visits since then with her. christopher > responses right away to > > her > > > when she tells him to do something or to stop > doing something > > (actually > > > i think i am going to record her voice!!). make > sure you have > > > something for yourself to eat as well, since you > will be there > for > > > awhile!! she does have a nice cabinet of toys > in her exam room > > for the > > > kids but there really isnt much in the small > waiting area, just > a > > TV. > > > > > > jodie c > > > > > > > > > > __________________________________ Yahoo!
