Guest guest
Hi . I used to live in No. VA. I have worked with Orthotic Solutions and Nascott. However, the Public Shoe Store in Arlington is suppose to have great prices and be very helpful. I believe Joanne Walton (another site member) used them and always talked highly of them. Also, you probably don't need to make an appointment. Orthotic Solutions and Nascott, you have to make an appointment and then order the shoes. It can take much longer. He's currently in his 10th and final cast (7 regular, 1 semi-ridged & 2 post-tenonomy), so now we need to find a place that sells the boots & bar. Dr. H gave us a listing of vendors in VA, but I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the following companies that are close to us: Public Shoe Store, Arlington Bradshaaw / Kids Clothes, Arlington Nascott Rehab Services, Fairfax Orthotic Solutions, Fairfax Thanks! Guest guest
Thanks, . I called Nascott & had a very difficult time with them. They kept saying I needed an appointment to get sized, but I kept telling them I already knew EXACTLY what I needed b/c Dr. H wrote out a very detailed prescription. I would have just conceeded (even though I was right) and gone in, but the next appointment they have is the 11th & I need the shoes for our appointment with Dr. H on the 12th. Nascott said there was no way to order & receive the shoes in one day. So I suggested that they order them now & she said they can't order them without my son being sized & evaluated by the doctor & I said HE'S ALREADY BEEN SIZED AND HE ALREADY HAS A DOCTOR!!! Ugh, it was a very circular conversation that ended in me giving up! So, on to the next company! > My son, Declan, has bi-lateral clubfeet & he is being treated by Dr. > Herzenberg in Baltimore. Guest guest
Not in Northern Virgina, but Van Dyke and Bacon in Ellicott City, MD also carries the Markells in stock. Not sure what time your next appointment is with Dr. H (we also see him, but I live in MD), but if you are coming from N VA, you could go there first??? It is about 15 mins off Rt 29 (the store is actually on Rt 40), ask for a female named Mattie (sp???). My daughter is in the s now, but started with the Markells. If you tell Van Dyke and Bacon the size they will hold them for you. OR, if they need to order, it only takes a couple of days. There are other Dr. H patients on here that may be able to chime in regarding the N VA stores. Kim Mom to Maddie, 06/16/2005, BCF, P/M Brace > > Thanks, . Guest guest
Oh- Should have mentioned that we got PART of the Markells covered through BCBS. I think we got about 50% back. Needed the EIN for Van Dyke and Bacon. If you need more information, let me know. Kim > > Not in Northern Virgina, but Van Dyke and Bacon in Ellicott City, MD also > carries the Markells in stock. Guest guest
I second Van Dyke and Bacon in Ellicott City. We first went to an orthotist in Rockville that takes our insurance and he really didn't have clue what to do with a prescription from a Ponseti doctor, ordered the wrong shoes and bar, and was less than interested in learning about the set up of the shoes. (In the end, it didn't matter that he took our insurance because our insurance won't pay for any part of the shoes or bar.) For the next shoes we went to Van Dyke and Bacon in Ellicott City and the shoes were there in no time. I bet you could call and order them over the phone; we delt with a man named " Irv " who was very nice to work with. 6-19-05, lcf, FAB 16/7 > > > My son, Declan, has bi-lateral clubfeet & he is being treated by > > Dr. > > > Herzenberg in Baltimore. Guest guest
> We did use Orthotic Solutions in Februrary, as that was recommended by our dr. We did see them 3 times, once for measuring, once for fitting, and a final follow-up fit the Markell shoes. We definately found them to be professional and helpful. Unfortunately, the Markell shoes did not work out for us in the end, and we had to order s. We had to order these directly from the website. I got the impression that Orthodic Solutions were not as familar with this type, and what they were going to charge us was 3x the manufactor's price. Considering that the shoes are not covered (I'm still fighting for it) by my ins., $1100 is quite a bit that they were asking for the mitchells. The Markells are more reasonably priced. Good luck! > My son, Declan, has bi-lateral clubfeet & he is being treated by Dr. > Herzenberg in Baltimore.
