Guest guest
Carole, you need to research more.I mean meeting people in person. I have done alot of research and to the extent offindingsome wonderful friends who have had wls.I have seen first handed, not everyone suffers like you say.WLS (all types) is taboo to many people, they all have heard horror stories. I have been told by obese and thin people that I could die.Life is full of many choices and many different types of people. We all have become obese by bad habits.I gained my weight from food(i.e.,potatoes,bread,burgers),some gain from sweets.I think you are being unfair by attacking people.I say whatever worksto change your life is fine.I have seen it first handed and that is as good as gold.I would never attack nayone for having a procedure to lose weight. It is up to each one of us to research and make what changes wer want.As for the tenderizer, that is one that I have asked and no one has had to attempt yet. Please remember any type of wls is drastic. There are millions of people in this world who are lucky to have been born thin. Most of them believe we are crazy to even anticipate a surgery to stop us from putting a " fork in our mouths " or " bending our elbows " as they say.If you are critical against wls patients of any type you are judging all of us.We are all obese and suffering, doesnt that make usa family. Guest guest
Tracey,I refuse to fight with anyone.Like I said it is totally immature and Im not a child.I am an obese person who is in need of help.I think you need to read both of the posts.I was pointing out plain and simple facts from my heart.I think many people read posts and take them to " Gods truth " .I dont,I wanted to meet wls patients and see first handed.I have broken bread an watched many of them eat. I think you need to look for a fight elsewhere. My energies are going towards a surgery that will save my life. I wont be critical towardsanyones choice.Different strokes for different folks as they say. I think it is bad for us to say quote the wrong things about different procedures. We do not know unless we walk in their shoes!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guest guest
Carole, I also subscribe to several other RNY " heavy " lists....the last time I publicly mentioned the DS to the list I was warned about spamming the list(mind you the list owner is cosidering a reversal from an RNY to DS) which of course if I was new to the list would make me wonder but anywho....one of the post-ops by a few months was telling me she could not believe how twisted I was becuase I viewed dumping as a punishment at that point I said never mind....time will tell who will be more succesfful with their respective surgeries....there is a quote that says " you are only as happy as you make up your mind to be " now I understand it...... Lisbeth MsMystic1@... wrote: I am on a list that is primarily RNY people. There are a few who mention that they are new to the list or still waiting for ins approval or a date. To those, if I think they are not immediately ready for surgery, or have already had it, I send links about DS, with a quick note saying " you might want to check this out " just in case they haven't already heard of it, and I always say " good luck no matter what you decide. " Well, here is a portion of a return email I got back..........and this is not the first time I have had this reaction from people. It *amazes* me that some people *want* rny so they can *suffer*. I just don't *get it!* I guess they really bought into the fact that their over-weight is a result of their *relationship* to food and their *badness*. They KNOW they are getting a " tool " and not a " fix " for their problem and they are signing up for *dieting* the rest of their lives......I just cannot imagine it. They also post a lot about starting to *gain* and having to *diet* and *watch* what they eat more closely....I have seen posts about meat tenderizer and even papaya tablets to help with the clogging of the stomah. What gives with these people??? I guess misery loves company and they like being members of the " misery club " where they can commisserate with each other about not eating raw fruits and veggies, etc. Anyway, just goes to show you some people actually *choose* to get the RNY to suffer!!!!!!! here is a portion of the email I got back........ " I have been looking into WSL for several months now, and I have read quite a bit about both the RNY and the DS procedures. While certainly I want the insurance to pay for the surgery, that has not been my primary reason for my decision to select the RNY procedure. For me, I WANT something that will change my relationship with food and how I eat. I am hoping that I will respond to too many sugar grams or too much fat with severe dumping. I don't want to eat those things anymore, but I need some help to stop. I think each person goes into the WLS with different needs and goals. I also think there are pros and cons of each procedure. The trick is matching up our own needs and goals with a surgery's benefits and drawbacks for the best " fit " so to speak. I think that is what I have done for myself and I trust that is what you have done, too. " Amazing, isn't it? Guest guest
graydowney, You completely missed the point of Carole's post! She never attacked anyone and never told anyone they weren't having the correct surgery. She simply suggested kindly that they check out information on the DS and then showed us examples of their replies. She then spoke her mind of how she felt about the DS surgery, which is WHAT WE DO on this list. Please read posts completely before accusing people of attacking others. Guest guest
Again, you missed the point. I wasn't looking for a fight of any kind. But, I'm not going to get caught up in your incessant childish bantering. You do this on every list I subscribe to and I should have known better than to point out that you misinterpreted Carole's post. You always reply with an illogical and unprovoked attack. I apologize to the list for starting this and I promise I will not reply publicly to anymore posts by this woman. Guest guest
Graydowney, Please note: This list is specifically for people who have had the Distal Gastric Bypass with a Duodenal Switch or the Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch. The Duodenal Switch surgery is unique and is being done by a limited number of surgeons throughout the world. I have found that our experiences after surgery with food, weight loss, medical problems, etc is quite different from people who've had other types of WLS. I created this list so we can address our issues specifically. If you are interested in having this surgery, you are also welcome to join! You have stirred up enough stuff on the DS insurance board with your RNY rhetoric. Your opinions and choice of surgery are fine and dancy, however this is a Duodenal Switch board. Why are you here? You do not meet the charter of this board. Nuff Said, Theresa > Carole, you need to research more.I mean meeting people in person.
