Guest guest
Hi , Dr Herron was/is my Dr. I had lap DS, but he converted to open. I am not completely sure of all the reasons, except he said he needed to see better. Why I don't know yet. I could have had adhesions from a previous gall bladder surgery. WHen I went for my 3 week check-up I was still too sick to care. But I go for my 3 month check-up on Jan 3. And I will be asking more questions. What time is your appointment with him on the 3rd? I have a 3:45PM appointment. Dr Herron is a very FINE looking man, and he is very nice too. My family liked him also. After surgery he went and talked to all 6 of them who were waiting. I know Dr Gagner is the doctor of choice for many on here, but Dr Herron trained under him and continues to work with him. Sometimes Dr G assists with Dr Herron and I was hoping for that, but Dr Pomp assisted, along with Dr Quinn. So I felt I was in very capable hands. Sheri Lap/Open DS 9/28/01 Dr Herron/Mt Sinai/NYC -40#s (for 3 weeks in a row ) sigh

Thanks, pal! I really appreciate your consistent concern and intelligent responses! (guess we Noo Yawkas gots ta stay togedder, right? :::smiling:::>>>> Hi, . Actually, I'm really a corn-fed Midwestern girl from Chicago.. I always thought that was the reason I was so 'nice'! ROFL I've been here for 6 years now, so I guess I AM a New Yorker now???? LOL <<<<<Dr. Herron's Medical Assistant, Irene, faxed me the Instruction Sheet for pre-consult stuff that I need to do. I need to get an Upper endoscopy, nutritional and psychological counseling and some blood tests. She said that they " prefer " me to use their psychologist (at $250 a pop!!!). Do you know if that's just a business arrangement, or is there a sound reason for that? >>>>> WEll, the guy they use is used to doing psych evaluations for WLS. I think that's the reason they prefer him. I think many psychs may not have that particular experience. I've read some horror stories of pages of testing, evaluations, etc. from psychs (not necessarily in NYC) and all the BS people have to go through to get evaluated and 'approved' for the surgery. Dr. Drooker is ok -- the eval is quick and he told me there was only one case, I think where he absolutely didn't recommend someone for surgery. I was lucky -- Dr. Drooker took Oxford Freedom (my insurance), so I paid like 65 bucks. Whew!!! If you have a psych and feel comfortable with that person, maybe you could just use them. I'm sure there are others on the list who have done this. Hopefully someone else with this input can speak up and/or e-mail you privately? I wonder what the cost would be for a different psych --- I guess you could comparison shop or ask for referrals. Problem is, many psychs don't take insurance and/or many insurances don't even cover mental care visits. You may be paying as much for another psych and that person may NOT understand what the evaluation is for. They may put you through a long list of questions or such that really isn't necessary.... <<<<< My own business partner (I work out of his office when I do career consultations), has a young woman on staff who counsels folks considering WLS, so he (my partner), is a psychologist fully versed in WLS. I can't imagine they would not accept a report written by him...whaddya think?>>>>> I'm sure they'd accept it. I mean, if he's certified and writes a report they really can't say anything about that. I think the main reason they want Drooker is because he is familiar with evals for WLS. If you know someone who is, then you'll be ok, I'd think. <<<<<<Anyway, thanks again for the post, and here's wishing you, your family, and particularly your mom, health and happiness forevah!!! :::grinning::: (hope Mom's doing well!)>>>>>> Thanks -- I wish for that as well. I especially hope that my marriage will heal and grow... it's been stagnant for over 2 years now and it's still touch and go.... I haven't spoken to my mom in two days. EVerytime I call she's sleeping or knocked out on pain meds. I think she is really discouraged b/c of the pain she's experienced in her leg, etc. (they diagnosed that she had a break in her ankle, still haven't gotten an update about her wrist or knee). I hope she isn't giving up... she'll need a heck of a lot of willpower and energy to try to get through physical therapy. My aunt is supposed to fly up there today so it's a big relief that someone will be there with her to help her through this 24/7. all the best and thanks for everyone's continued thoughts and prayers, lap ds with gallbladder removal January 25, 2001 Dr. Gagner/Mt. Guest guest
Hi, Sheri!! Thanks for responding to my post! My appt. is at 10:00a.m....don't imagine I'll still be there for your appt., but I would imagine that we could possibly meet at his office another time! :::smiling::: Don't be dismayed by having only lost 40#'s, and maintained that for three weeks...not that I'm any kind of expert here, but I've read enough posts to know that it will come off eventually...sometimes just a listtle slower than we'd like, but then, hey....who are we anyhow??? LOL Keep your chin up...I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya! --- SheriGr@... wrote: > Hi , > Dr Herron was/is my Dr. I had lap DS, but he > converted to open.
