Guest guest
I hope someone can give some good info here. I looked on the DAN Dr. list and found one 80 miles away (closest one listed). Is there possible a more updated list that would include more? My questions are: What exactly does a DAN dr do that reg ped doesn't? I assume they are more up to date than My pediatrician, especially since I seem to be educating her more that she, me on autism info. The Dr. that diagnosed my sons autism is the same Dr. Bauer that Seroussi refers to in her book (he didn't buy into sensory integration therapy either, when I asked about it when I saw him last 2 yrs ago.) SO obviously he is not the best source for autism help as far as gfcf diet and enzymes go. He actually was talking to me about possible ADD meds like Ritalin when my son was just 3. Of course he said it was for possible use in the future like when he goes to school. Right now school is kindergarten with full time aid that I keep getting ticked off at for doing TOO MUCH for my Danny (that's another battle). SO back to DAN dr...I am already doing the diet. I had the ped test for Glutein, casein soy and peanut. Nothing showed on Danny, but soy and peanut minor allergy showed for 10 yr old ASPerger son. She said to go ahead and let him have a little peanut butter if he wants it. I bought almond butter and thats fine with him. They don't seem to get the poioning part that I really believe in my heart. Joey (10 yr old ASP) has been so much calmer and loving since dietary changes, and supplementation and enzymes. Diet made biggest impact, tho I probably should have added vits and enzymes more slowly. I was just an eager beaver and did all this over a months time. I am working on decreasing sugar slowly and am doing probiotics and acidolophis for possible yeast problems. I have done all this on my own. EVEN pediatrician is unaware of all I am doing right now. SHe was supportive of the GFCF diet, and even referred me to a nutricianist when I asked. But that was a joke. The only info I walked out of that with is that I am not over vitaminizing my kids. SOto answer my own question...a DAN dr would probably be better to guide me, BUT is it necessary? I have a feeling my insurance would NOT cover it and the hubby isn't keen on any more extra expenses (you know much the grocery bill gos up once you are GFCFSF AND add in all the vitamins, yeast defiars and enzymes.) Also, with yeast possibility (I don't kow for sure if it is a problem,, but I assume everything is at this point), will the probiotics and acidopholis be enough at thhis point to make any improvements if there is a yeast issue? I know there are alot of sies for info, but time is precious, like the children. ANd now we need to wipe out my entire computer cuz DH tried to fix something. I need to fuind a way to save all these digests I have and put them back in after we start the computer again from scratch....headaches. Thanks so much, You have been a great source of support, ideas and harmony in my household. God bless all of your families.
