Guest guest
Hello, Welcome to the group here. It sounds like you're having a little trouble with the treatment process. I'm wondering why your doctor only prescribed the brace to be worn at night. Directly out of casts a baby should wear it full time to guard against any potenital relapse. Wearing it part time may explain why your child had to be casted a 2nd time around. It is somewhat normal for a baby to be uncomfortable in the brace at the beginning of wear. Generally speaking that only lasts a few days or a week. Continued discomfort is usually a sign that something else is wrong. for example the brace is set up incorrectly; the brace is the wrong size; the feet were not ready for bracing before they were put in the brace; the feet are relapsing due to improper brace wear; and user-error applying the brace to the child. Any or all of those things could be a factor here. With out proper use of the brace the child's feet will relapse, so it's important that we help you figure out how to make the baby happy. For starters, lets explore the brace. The baby's heels should be shoulder-width apart. If a bar is too short, it is very uncomfortable / painful to the baby. If the shoes are too big, or too small, they will not fit properly, again causing discomfort / pain / blisters / lack of success. The toes of the clubfeet should be adjusted to point out at 70 degrees. If the child has bilateral cf, both feet will be at 70 degrees. If he has unilateral cf, the clubbed foot will be at 70 and the non-clubbed foot somewhere around the 30 degree mark. Let's start there - check out your brace and tell us what is going on with that and we'll try from there to get your baby using it properly so you won't have to go through casting again.
