I ran into an 11 month old today in s today at the library! That's the first time we have ever seen another clubfoot child in treatment, casts or braces (except for 1 time in Dr. P's office). So fun for Lily to see someone who looked like her! Is there ever a clubfoot gathering in Iowa City? The way Lily laughed and pointed at the little one's s made me happy. However, after speaking with this mother, I know she is seeing the local ortho who is not following Dr. P to a " T " . Her daughter's case is unilateral and mild and she was fine with the local ortho. I didn't say anything other than that we loved Dr. Ponseti and if she was ever concerned, he and his team have worked miracles on Lily, but in retrospect, I think I should have said something, but what? Guest guest
Hi, There is a doctor in the ines who follows the Ponseti Method and is reportedly very good. Her name is Dr. Aguillara, I do not know what city she's in right off hand but JM's mom (JM is 5!) is seeing her and I will email and ask her to contact you. Severity is usually not a factor and if the foot isn't straight... it is not corrected. It should not only be straight, but it should point out to the side at a very dramatic angle. Straight is great... but you don't want straight till after years of brace wear (the foot comes back to neutral/straight). I posted in response to your other post this morning, hope you see that. If you can show us her foot that would help a lot. I think you should find Dr. Aguillara and have her give you a second opinion. Don't worry too much, we'll help you through this and Isha will have a perfect foot soon. Guest guest
Hi Satya. I only " knew " in this case the severity of the clubfoot because the mother told me (I assume the doctor told her). I think Kori posted a good answer to you (although I am not sure yet I agree that severity doesn't matter--although I could be wrong too--waiting to hear back from Kori on this). There are several concerns raised by your email and I am not so experienced in this sort of thing so I hope someone else posts. Here are some thoughts: #1. Dr. Ponseti responds to his e-mails. Send him photos of your daughter's foot (I will attach at the bottom a description of the photos that should be taken.) #2. Kori seems to have information on a good Ponseti doctor in the Philippines. #3. Her foot should be quite straight, not 70% straight #4. Can you please post what brace she is in, what degree it is set at, how frequently she wears it, etc. #5 I think (and I do not know, this is a question for a doctor) that she should be able to bear weight on her feet at a year, when she is out of the brace (I am assuming you say she cannot stand because she in the brace with the " arc " to it?). #6 Can you post pictures here to CFPICS? I found this link very helpful ( www.global-help.org and click on Publications to download a copy of Clubfoot: Ponseti Management) when I was trying to determine how closely my doctor was following Ponseti protocol but the proof is really in the pudding as us Americans say (and probably the British, Canadians...). Meaning, her feet should look " right " if the treatment is " right " . Thanks for the post. This board has been a wealth of information for me--I hope it is for you too! Photo instructions I received from Dr. Ponseti: " If you could send me pictures, I might be able to give you some idea of what needs to be done. I would like to see her held in a standing position bearing weight on her bare feet on a hard surface (not carpet) from the front and from the back. I need to see her from the knees down. Then have her lie on her back, place the palm of your hand against the sole of her foot and gently press the foot into dorsiflexion. Take a side view of each foot in this position. " > Hi.
