Guest guest
Thanks for checking on that.... I didn't really believe it anyway when someone on this list claimed that. I don't remember who it was, but next time I hope everyone cites their source before sending others into a panic, or scaring people out of buying something that they personally don't happen to like. I have had no problems with eating meat from my Safeway, and am happy with it. Perhaps they were confusing the red dye thing with salmon meat? I have heard that red dye is sometimes used in farm raised salmon meat, because wild salmon meat is naturally pink, but farm raised salmon is naturally white. I don't know if this is true. I don't eat salmon or any fish because it makes me queasy. But maybe that is where this rumor started? Here is the response I got. Also, don't know which Safeway you shop at, but mine actually carriesorganic hamburger, milk and eggs (free range). They also carry buffalohamburger, which is very good.Lori
Guest guest
Meat is sometimes dyed. At least, I know it was not many years ago in the U.S., and I've read a mention of it recently in Europe. I don't know for sure if it still is done in the U.S. Farmed salmon is commonly given dyed food pellets. Dye vendors offer a range of tint and intensity, to suit different markets.
