Quick question for you...why endoscopy? That's one hoop I didn't have to

jump through.

Dear ,

My written instructions from the nutritionist said " soft " foods for

the first 3 weeks. I ate filet mignon at 10 days out. Chewed well,

it is soft. Also, chicken croquets, chili and soups (I didn't puree

them) and shrimp with lobster sauce are all " soft " . I also ate

meatballs with red sauce, flounder filet and Chilean Sea Bass a week

post-op. I just steered clear of nuts, uncooked veggies and " hard "

fruits like uncooked apples for the first 3 weeks. Everything else

went down pretty well. I did have a piece of hot, salted doughy

pretzel early on post-op (about 2 weeks) and after a sip of liquid

to " help it down " , it must of blown up in my stomach and boy did that

cause discomfort. After that, I stuck with toast and crackers. BTW,

now I can eat those hot doughy pretzels. Eating is really trial and

error. I never had nausea or vomitting and eating was never a

problem for me after surgery.

Dr. Sherman from NYU did my endoscopy and I too have a

strong " gag " reflex. I was totally out and didn't even know I had

the procedure. Just tell the gastro doctor to make sure that you are

out and you will be fine.

I purchased a liquid multivitamin, powdered calcium citrate and my

ADEKs and started on them the day after I got home. I was taking

vitamins, zinc and calcium before surgery.

Glad to hear everything is going so smoothly for you as it did for

me. Good luck.

Alyssa--Dr K doesn't order endoscopies routinely, unlike some other

surgeons. He has ordered one for me, and wants it done at DRMC,

because I have had as-yet-undiagnosed ulcer-type symptoms.

I'm confused about doing the endo to check for h.pylori. My

gastroenterologist said he was able to rule that out with a blood

test.

Alyssa, I too have Cigna PPO. So far, since my consult 11/7, Olga and

I have been getting conflicting stories about whether they've even

received my request for pre-determination (a bit of jargon I finally

was able to pry out, and not to be confused with preauthorization AKA

precertification. Confusing? frustrating?!? Not Cigna, no waaaay.)

So, if you're OK about passing on your Cigna angel's name and number,

I need it now, please please!

Thanks in advance,

Ginny (near Santa Cruz)

Preop Dr. K

No date yet, but I've already paid all of this year's out-of-pocket,

so I'm begging for a surgery date in 2001
