Guest guest
Hi Kristi, My daughter had brachy. I mentioned it at the 2 month appt and was told " don't worry " . I mentioned it at 4 mo and was told " oh, that looks pretty bad " . Unfortunately this is pretty common. At 10 months you still may get decent correction. I would definitely band. My daughter graduated at 10 mo, but we went back for a follow up measurement at 14 months. Even then her head had grown significantly. Unfortunately she wasn't banded then, so growth was all over and the proportions didn't improve. However she did get a lot of correction in her band. I would definitely do it again, even if we were getting a later start. -christine sydney, 5 yrs, starband grad > > Hi All, > I am new to this group and have a 9.5 month old little girl who was just evaluated at Cranial Technologies. She was found to have " moderate to severe " brachycephaly with flattening along the back and widening from side to side with a raised top of the skull. My husband and I noticed the flatness when she was about 3 months old, but were told by our pediatrician at her 4 and 6 month appointments not to worry about it. It wasn't until we saw a different doctor at her 9 month appointment that we got a recommendation to have her evaluated. > > It's looking like our insurance would cover the band, based on our daughter's numbers, but we are still torn about going through with the treatment because she is in the older age range and we're not sure how much improvement we are going to see. I know that improvement differs per case, but I was wondering if any of you have a child who was in a similar situation (age-wise and condition-wise) and what kind of results you saw. > Any feedback you can give me would be greatly appreciated! > > Kristi >
Guest guest
Kristi, Hey there! We too have decided to embark on the " helmet journey " and our son turned 9 months 1/19. We were scanned yesterday and our helmet/band has been ordered...expected to arrive on Wednesday 2/2. We went with STAR Cranial Center of Excellence after much research. I can't say they are " the best " I can just say that they are the best for us. Our son was born 6 weeks premature and was diagnosed with torticollus and plagio around 4 months. Our ped told us to try different stretching exercises and re-positioning. The torticollus is much better but his back left side of his head is still very flat and we've started to notice a change in his left eye. I can keep you posted on our journey...we just decided that better late than not at all. Our hopes and prayers are that even though we are starting " late " , the STARband will still be beneficial for our little guy. Hope this helps. Good luck!! ~ > > Hi All, > I am new to this group and have a 9.5 month old little girl who was just evaluated at Cranial Technologies. Guest guest
Yes, that all makes sense. Thanks for the info! Good luck to you and your little guy! > > My son started with his StarBand on Saturday, a little less than a week > after his 10 month " birthday " I too, was worried about having such a late > start. > > In the three weeks between his helmet scan and actually receiving the helmet > (because we waited FOREVER for insurance to DENY us, ugh) his head > circumference had a 3 mm growth.
