Guest guest
Hey jody its kim, just to let you know that i've had joint pain for years and especially knee problems. The doctors treated me for a number of years as having arthrititis, but have now concluded that as there is no deterioration of the bones it is not arthritis. They are now deciding that as i have a rare syndrome that my mobility issues may be an unknown part of that. Surprisingly i did have growing pains as a child and found my parents rubbing my legs and mild painkillerrs halped, funny us rss kids having growing pains he he. Hope this helps ease your mind, it must be so difficult to have a child in pain and not know how to help them or know why there are hurting i know my parents found it very distressing to see and feel so helpless. Jody & Damian wrote:Hi Has anyone had a problem with knee pain? Liam is now 4 and intermittently for about the last year he has complained of knee pain, to the extent of crying and needing medication to settle him. Liam has approx 1.5cm to 2 cm asymmetry, but does have one shoe built up and orthotics. Just an odd thing, could be growing pains, could be some sort of infection, dont know?? and as usual Drs respond with a blank look. Any experience greatly appreciated Jody(mum to Liam RSS 87cm 10.8kg and Cam)
Guest guest
Jody, Storm often has knee or shin pain. I have to rub his legs and give him ibuprofen and sometimes they still hurt. The doctor just says he has growing pains, but I wonder! Carmen, mom to and almost 10 year old Storm
Guest guest
Jody, Grant is almost 5, has 1.7 cm leg length discrepancy and has very predictable knee pain. We took him to a specialist who totally dismissed the asymmetry as the source of the pain - we don't see him any longer. If Grant is active for more than 1 hour without his orthotics he experiences a significant amount of discomfort - to the point of crying and immobilization. He is a very active boy and it is difficult to keep his shoes on, but if we don't we will pay for it later. Tylenol seems to be the best analgesic for pain management for this issue. He also likes lotion rubs. If his feet hang (as in a car seat) it can also create a lot of discomfort for him - though I'm not sure it is the same pain. This issue is very real for us and, as in your case, not taken too seriously by health care providers. We found what works and stick with it. Guest guest
Dear Jody & Damian My daughter had asymmetry of her legs, and her feet turned to the inside, so she actually compensated for the shortness of the one leg. We only discoverd it when she started to walk again. Her left leg, which are also the abnormal side is 3cm shorter than the other. The op was done on 6 January 2004 and the left femur stil have not healed. I think that maybe the pain is due to the body posture that may be influenced by the asymmetry, I would suggest that you consult a orthopedic surgeon but be cautious before deciding on an operative procedure.
