Guest guest
Colette, I have heard of Bebax boots, and I would guess that they're not used very often based on my casual observations of the boards over the past 6 years. I can tell you for sure that they're never used in conjunction with the Ponseti method. I know this probably won't surprise you! It doesn't sound very comfortable or productive from your description (rotation from the midfoot). I hope Ethan is 100% again and happy in his regular shoes/brace soon! > > Hi all, > > My son, Ethan, has a unilateral left club foot. Guest guest
Colette, I have heard of the Bebax boots too, and my understanding is that they by themselves will do very little to hold correction. Especially when used without being attached to a bar as your doctor has prescribed. They just can't hold the outward rotation of the foot properly. Because of the way they are jointed in the middle it can allow various parts of the foot to relapse or cause additional problems. I hope that Ethan will be back in his regular FAB soon! Guest guest
My daughter had to wear the bebax shoe for a while on her right foot (her left foot is atypical club foot). When she was born, her right foot was " turned " from the arch forward so the doctor put it in a cast for a week then the Bebax shoes for about two months 24 hours a day then began reducing hours until she came out if it around 4 months old. The shoe worked well for our problem, but he did say that it would not work for the club foot. (We asked because we were having many problems with the Markell shoes and looking for options - this was before we visited Dr. Ponseti). In my mind, from your description, I would assume your doctor is just trying to hold as much position as possible until your son's foot heals and can go back into the brace. Is there a reson he does not continue casting until it heals? That is truly what held my daughter's club foot the most (again, this doctor is not Ponseti cetified and our whole regimen changed upon seeing Ponseti himself). I did run into a problem with insurance, though, saying the bebax shoes were for " cosmetic " correction and would not cover them (just for your information to ask about). > > Hi all, > > My son, Ethan, has a unilateral left club foot. Guest guest
Hi there, Thanks for your responses. I hadn't checked my messages for a little while. Ethan was in the Bebax boots for two weeks, but now we have him back in the markells and brace. The good news is that he is comfortable. The source of discomfort was the width of his feet on the bar. , as you so correctly pointed out, his feet were too close together. As soon as I moved his feet out to the middle hole in the FAB he was fine. I'm amazed at the difference it has made, and relieved. In addition, the degree of abduction is now correct. Once again, thanks for your advice. we wouldn't have got to this point without out. Cheers Colette > > > > Hi all, > > > > My son, Ethan, has a unilateral left club foot.
