That's great, Judie. Mine was down to 133. But, my HDL was only 33, and a value below 40 is considered to be a separate cardiac risk factor in and of itself: Total Cholesterol = 133 HDL = 33 (low) LDL = 81 Triglycerides = 97 But, with the total cholesterol so low, I am not sure if that magic 40 number still holds, since the HDL is just about 25% of the total cholesterol. Anyway, could you please send your HDL values for comparison, please? BTW, regarding the value of exercise: exercise is supposed to raise HDL. My July value for HDL was 30; now it is 33. I have been exercising regularly for almost three years now, but immediately post-op (May and June), I eased off for a while. Mine is below what it should be but at 98 there isn't much to get that number high. My ratio is fine though. Guest guest
What you're actually looking for is the ratio: 1 HDL can " eat " 4.2 LDLs, so as long as you don't exceed that ratio, you're fine. With 33:81, you're at 1:2.something, so that's FINE. ~alyssa, cholesterol queen Re: cholesterol -- HDL > That's great, Judie. Mine was down to 133.
