Guest guest
Hello, We just moved to the LA area from New York, where we had a wonderful doctor treating my son's unilateral clubfoot. He referred me to a doctor out here, but in a different county and rather far away. Does anyone see a Ponsetti certified doctor in the immediate LA area? I didn't see any listed on Dr. Ponsetti's site. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks! , mom to Elliot, 7 months, unilateral right CF. Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to Los Angeles. We drive to Long Beach to see Dr. and Dr. . Dr. studied in Iowa with Dr. Ponseti and is on Ponseti's list. Dr. is Dr. 's fellow doctor. Dr. applies our casts, answers all our questions and addresses any concerns. Dr. oversees our progress and will answer any questions we have as well. Their offices see 2-3 clubfoot children per week so these doctors and their staff are quite versed in the Ponseti method. The drive is actually not that far and is so worth it. We live in the Culver City area and it takes us 30-45 minutes to get to Long Beach at the most. You'll be able to ride in the carpool lane which cuts down the commute time significantly. When we were searching for a Ponseti doctor, we visited Shriners Children's Hospital in downtown LA. Dr. Otsuka, who I believe is also the Chief of Staff, " practices " the Ponseti method. I didn't feel as comfortable with him as I would have liked. He changes the casts every two weeks instead of one. When I questioned this modification he said it was to stretch out the time frame in the casts so that, in case surgery was needed, the child would be done with the casting and would be at the right age and weight for the surgery. In other words, it was, to me, a conservative approach erring on the side of surgery. In Dr. Otsuka's defense, when I questioned the two-week cast changes, he said he would change them weekly if I felt more comfortable with that. Long story short, we ended up in Long Beach. What area are you in? mommy to -J'nee, bcf, born 01.07.06 > > Hello, > > We just moved to the LA area from New York, where we had a wonderful doctor treating my > son's unilateral clubfoot.
