Guest guest
Dear Parent, If you are a parent of a child diagnosed with autism or PDD, NOS who is currently receiving 30-40 hours per week of one-to-one behavioral therapy, 20-30 minutes of your time is requested to complete four short questionnaires. A research study is currently underway, examining the adaptation process parents encounter upon having an in-home behavioral treatment program be conducted for their child. Your experience and input will be used to help prepare new parents anticipate the changes that may occur in the family upon beginning such an intensive program, focusing particularly on an individual's needs based on his or her personality. And as we all have different personalities, different strengths and weaknesses, what may be helpful for one person may not be so for another. Therefore, it is important that individual personalities be considered when forming any successful adaptation program. As a doctoral student and a behavioral consultant for children with autism at the Lovaas Institute for Early Intervention, I currently have the opportunity to contribute to the question of why some families adapt so easily while other appear to experience difficulty. The results of this study and similar studies will be used to develop effective and manageable parent training models, as well as help educate professional as to the strengths within families to adapt to the demands of an in-home program. Participation in this study should take approximately 20-30 minutes and involves completing four short questionnaires. To receive a packet or further information, please contact me via email at Sashah@..., leaving your name and complete address. A. Chehrazi, M.A, C.
