Guest guest
I was going to post a similar question about 's left knee. It pops, but doesn't make a noise and doesn't bother him. It almost feels like it pops out of socket, then goes right back it. I have noticed it when I stretch him, or when I put his shoes on, so mainly when his foot is moved a certain way. I have wondered if it is similar to a loose ligament or tendon because they are not holding the knee properly in place. Most of the muscles in his legs are very tight and a constant struggle to keep loose, so I am confused as to why his knee seems so bendable. Hopeful, someone can point you or me in some direction! Sorry I couldn't be of more help. 11/19/04 needing prayers wrote: I don't know if you all remember me mentioning the " pop " I was hearing from Marcus's last cast (the cast to correct the c-shape). We couldn't figure out where the popping sound was coming from while in the cast, but he was not in any pain so we figured everything was fine. Well, I've been hearing the " pop " again and have since figured out where it's coming from. It's his ankle joint and knee joint. When he tenses his foot/leg in a certain way, it pops. He's still not bothered by it, but it does bother me. I'm worried that something may be wrong. The bones in his clubfoot (the tarsals, I believe) also do a lot of popping when I move his foot around. Do any of your children have this popping in their clubfoot/leg? Do you think it's something I should be worried about? Like I said, he's not bothered by it at all and it doesn't stop him from moving his leg/foot like a little maniac . I just don't want any complications from this further down the road. I don't have an appt with the ortho until April 3rd and until then I wanted to know if any of you know anything about this. Thanks. Guest guest
That's exactly it. It's almost as if the knee pops out and then goes back in. But the popping sound is definitely there - and can be felt too. I am wondering (and I may be wrong) if it has anything to do with the s being set at 70 degrees on that foot. I see that everyone is saying the s should be at 60 degrees, but our ortho set them at 70. Is it possible it's too much rotation and therefore putting a strain on his joints? Guest guest
I suppose anything is possible, but since I am not in the 's, I can't comment to much about that. Maybe someone else can. We have 's Markell's set at 60 degrees. Our doctor said we could go to 50, but are staying with 60 right now. That decrease didn't cause a change in the popping for us, but with a different brace, I guess it could help. Sorry I am still of no help! 11/19/04 needing prayers wrote: That's exactly it. Guest guest
Hopefully someone can help both of us with this question. I'm just worried about long-term consequences. Guest guest
I know your ortho has been pretty open to the suggestions you've brought to him from Dr. P - wanna make another attempt at it? I would probably either talk to Dr. P about the popping noise, and the rotation of the s and take his comments (if of any concern) back to your ortho -- OR, I'd go ahead and go for the second opinion. Just to be sure. I forget, where are you? Can you go to Iowa? St. Louis or some other Shriner's with a good Ponseti doc? > I don't know if you all remember me mentioning the " pop " I was hearing from Marcus's last cast (the cast to correct the c-shape). Guest guest
Thanks for the reply . I have sent emails to Dr. Ponseti in the past and almost every time he felt that Dr. (our ortho in Arizona, 2-hour drive) was the best one to make the decisions. He felt we were in good hands. So I would hate to bother him again with more questions. I know it will be hard for him (especially with the popping) to determine the cause of the popping since he can't actually see/manipulate the foot/leg. I think I will just have to wait for our doctor's appt on April 3rd to see what he says. If, at that time, he can't identify the cause for the popping, then I will email Dr. P. I was just hoping that maybe there was someone else on here who may have had the same problem and knew the cause/solution for it. wrote: I know your ortho has been pretty open to the suggestions you've brought to him from Dr. P - wanna make another attempt at it?
