First relax and try to pretend it is normal and fun - this will help your baby

adjust. My daughter got her band at 5 months and it was pretty easy. She didn't

sleep well, but she was not a great sleeper before that either and she got her

first cold at the same time. After a week or two it was pretty routine. She

didn't like us taking it on and off the first few days, so it was easier once it

stayed on 23 hours. When it was off she would scratch at her head so we would

try and keep her occupied with toys and her bath when the band was off. I think

it was that her head felt different without her band. We saw changes within two

weeks so that was comforting. Hopefully you'll see improvement too.

for the first few weeks would be much appreciated!!!

This is day #3 for my 7 month old son, he has done awesome. Within an hour of

the 1st day he fell asleep in his. If we had went with the break in schedule he

was not suppose to nap in it but we were told if he falls asleep do not wake him

to take it off. So we have followed the schedule other than that. Day #1 my

little man wanted to nap more than usual with it on, and he didn't have an

interest to play he just wanted to be held. He also was sweating A LOT..

Remember to dress her cool while she is wearing it, she will get use to it and

not sweat as much as time goes on. Day #2 was very tough for me, I was very

emotional due to the fact he slept more and I felt like he was depressed, and I

know that is not the case but it was very hard. Day #3 has been better we are up

to 4 hours on and 1 hour off. He seems to have more interest in some toys and

hasn't been as tired. I think overall he has been adjusting very well, on the

other hand it's me who is having a hard time. Hang in there and do not freak out

she will do fine. He never messes with it or tugs on it, so it is not hurting

him and doesn't seem to be uncomfortable. Hope this was helpful if you have

anymore questions feel free to ask. Good luck keep us posted :)

I agree with . Try to make it fun for her. Trust me it will be more difficult for you to deal with it than it will be for your daughter. My daughter recieved her band a few weeks before she turned 5 months. The first couple of nights she had a little trouble falling asleep, but once she was asleep she had no problem. We noticed changes after the 1st 2 weeks which made it all worth while. Don't worry about what other people think either. I was so worried about that, but most people are really understanding and still think that your baby is just adorable You are doing the right thing and in the end it will pay off. Just relax and take it one day at a time.

Thank you for the support! I am not worried about how others will view my child

but more worried about how she wil adjust to it. I know that children are

resilant and I am probably worrying for no reason, but isn't that what parents

do! This has been a very long process I am just ready to get started. I have

already ordered some " bling " for her helmet...we might as well make it fun! My

biggest worry is that we still have to have a CT scan to verify that her sutures

have not fused. Our ped ordered x-rays and they showed no premature fusion but

the ped. plastic surgeon prescribing the helmet ordered the additional test. He

said it is highly unlikely and typically premature fusion will show up in an

x-ray but Reese's head isn't the normal plagio shape so he just wants to make

sure we are in the clear. I am very lucky that I have two doctors who are

exremeley thorough but I am super scared that my baby will have to be put under

for this test.

On another note we did not go to cranial tech, or a similar office we are using

an orthotics and prostetics office in St. Louis. What does the typical schedule

look like when easing the children into the helmet? Is it similiar for all

types of helmets?

Thanks again for all of your support!

I agree we went through a long process to, and we had a CT scan before we

were fitted for the helmet. We found out the there is extra bones in the back of

his and they do not recommend taking them out. So that was very interesting but

everything else came back OK.

We did not go to a Cranial Tech, we were referred to Hanger from Childrens

Mercy. Day #1 1 hour on 1 hour off no nap, no bedtime in it. Day #2 2 hours on 1

hour off no nap, no bedtime in it, Day #3 4 hours on 1 hour off introduce nap,

and if nap goes well they can sleep in it, Day 4 8 hours on 1 hour off, wear

during naps and bedtime, and Day#5 23 hours on and 1 hour off... Hope this was

helpful. I am not sure sure everyone has the same as ours but I wish you luck,

it has been pretty easy for us....

My 5 1/2 month old got his band right before christmas and he really does not

even seem to notice that it is on. We are just starting week 3 and so far so

good, we've had to go in for some adjustment (doc band) but it's all been a

super easy process. Right now it is off because he got some heat rash on his

head, either from bring in car seat or his bed, the warmest places. So my advice

is not to worry and just call when you see redness, they can either adjust the

band or at least guide you through what to look for. We went today and he has

already shown remarkable growth!

Good luck and don't be too worried, my son's demeanor has not changed z bit!!
