Guest guest
could it possibly be from his socks? The seam in the toe area? hummmm... as far as slipping on the non CF, have you modified the shoes in any way yet? You may want to try elongating the tongue keeper slit up to the stitches and pulling it way down over his toes so the ankle can be tightened up a bit more. Also, try only lacing to the second from the top holes and tie there, that can help too if his ankle is a bit fatty still. If you haven't already, try putting the strap into the lower set of slots, or alternately if they're already there, try the upper ones. Most kids do best in the lower slots though. You can also try lacing from the top down, making the ankle super tight and allowing a bit less in the toe area (although leaving the toes looser may make them move too much which could mean an actual blister - gotta watch that one I think). Also, try a slick bandaid on the red spots or maybe pad the area of the shoe that makes the mark with mole skin. You should be able to get the plastizode inserts from your orthotist without any hitches. I think as well, should you run into problems that Iowa can send you some. I think I've heard from parents who have ordered them that way. I think... What shoes is he in? Markells with the deeper heel pocket or the ones with the holes? If it's the ones with the heel pocket and factory padded tongue he really shouldn't need the plastizode but it may help. I don't mean to second guess you, but are you sure you can't get them any tighter? The straps can stretch some, and I actually found that as Darbi grew, I often would end up choking up on the straps a hole rather than what would seem logical for a growing foot, to go to a looser hole. Try pushing him deeply into the heel and make the strap tighter than you normally can. If he's dealing with a little stretching of the strap, it probably is stretching and then tightening back up a bit when there's not a warm foot in the shoe. Theory really... trying to figure out how to help you solve this and getting hairbrained ideas lol. Also, sometimes you can kind of reposition the strap a little bit on the top of the foot (pulling tongue way down over toes can do this) and this changes how tight they can be buckled. I would have to say, that if you tighten the strap (no laces) as far as you possibly can and pull on the heel it should not slip. If it's slipping the strap isn't tight enough and you'll want to find out how you can manipulate the foot or modify the shoe to be able to get it tighter. As for untying... employ duct tape :~} No really, as a last resort try the tape hehe... pulling the top of the sock down over the knot can help (out of sight, out of mind theory) or double knots. Some kids can get doubles undone too though lol. My daughter didn't start untying them till she was about 2yo but some kids are brilliant and do it so much younger than her! Guest guest
Oh, I posted on the go, and didn't proof, but that one sentence was suppose to say the only night that my hubby put the shoes on and not me. Now off to read responses. And I just took his FAB off, and the spots are fading now, but still there. I am really not understanding. > > Okay, we have had mostly smooth sailing since you all helped me get > Isaac's FAB problems worked out(needing smaller size, changing bar > position, etc). > > He is starting his week 6 right now, and has started slipping out of > his non club foot shoe. Guest guest
When my daughter got spots like that is was because her foot ws getting too compressed in the shoe width wise. Her red marks were on the mid side of her foot, and it was actually the shoe width that was too small. So we got bigger shoes. I dont know if this helps or not. I know that Mole FOAM or DuoDerm has works wonders for Lilee. Guest guest
, Just curious... Is the spot on his cf toes right under the edge of the tongue? If so, this is the same issue we had with Tenny. Took us forever to figure it out. Kori pretty much has everything covered. We cut the tongues and laced the shoes and all like she suggested. It all helped, but the tongues were so short and the edge so abrupt that it seemed to cut into Tenny's toes. The slick bandaids worked.... but we figured that out only after the cuts were already there. Finally our orthotist gave us some old tongues he dug off of the biggest shoes he could find. They completely covered Tenny's toes and the problem went away. I was very concerned that a new set of shoes would bring the same problem. It started too, and I couldn't get a bigger set of tongues. Last resort I ripped the padding off the tongues and stuck some thing moleskin in its place (to cover the stickiness of the adhesive residue). The thinner tongue seems to work better for Tenny. The edge is not so abrupt. Of course, we cut all the slits bigger and pull them down as far as they will go. ( what's up with these micro tongues... one of our is so short the laces will only stay on top of the tongue if the slit is cut all the way to the stiching and pulled down as far as it will go... and then just barely make it) Anyway, that's what we did. I would use the slick bandaid, just be careful of wrinkles and maybe a bit of Lanisoh. Couldn't hurt anyway. Works wonderfully on blisters. Just a thought, Toe blister Okay, we have had mostly smooth sailing since you all helped me get Isaac's FAB problems worked out(needing smaller size, changing bar position, etc). He is starting his week 6 right now, and has started slipping out of his non club foot shoe. It has been fine until now, and is the right size still per the Markell sizing chart. I have tightened as tight as I can. Any ideas? Can I call a local orthotist company and order/buy platizote for a heel counter or do I have to get a RX and go back to the doc? Also, the one night I did not put the shoes on(not really sure if that was the problem but that was when it first showed up), his clubfoot got 2 dark red spots. One right above the pinky toe and one b/w his last 2 toes. They are getting darker by the day. His clubfoot is not slipping out except the rare occassion that he unties the shoes and removes the laces halfway(grr)- hasn't happened lately. His foot has very obviously grown and lengthened, so it must be the front top of the shoe bothering him now that his foot is longer, vs a month ago when his foot was still too short to come up that far. The shoe tongue already has the padding on it, and I ran my fingers in to make sure his toes were positioned correctly and that the leather wasn't pinching there. The marks look like marks if u wear jeans too tight...but they don't go away. I will try to take a pic tonight,as we are leaving the house right now, but any ideas??
