I had my surgery on February 1st, the day before Dawn did, and I know exactly which nurse she is referring to. He does not work for Dr. Aceves, he works for the hospital.

I too am pretty shocked and disappointed at the feedback Dawn is getting, and since I was there I also feel like I need to add a few things. It was pointed out to me that new people were hired and overbooked for this week. The truth is that it showed. The male nurse was the only nurse for the 20+ wing. I believe he was also new, and he was incredibly slow. I continuously had to remind myself that one of the main reasons I fell in love with Mexico was because of the lazafaire attitude. I told one of my van mates that my pain overrides this intoxicatingly relaxed attitude, and I get stressful and pissy and demanding! But to no avail, it still took 2.5 hours for me to get some gas-X.

I'm not going to go into detail of every little thing that went wrong, but there were plenty.

As stated in a previous post, I did freak out until my husband arrived (called him crying). He was not able to come in until Friday, the day of my surgery. My suggestion is that if you are a bit of a wimp and know this about yourself or are feeling apprehensive AT ALL, be sure to bring someone you really care about with you. The cost includes a companion, even all their meals at the hospital. Having someone there, even if they don't speak Spanish, is very comforting.

Now it's time to look forward to a new me. I'm so excited about my wl journey. I even lost 5 lbs at the hospital. One thing that was pretty funny was that my vanmates and I were weighing in while we each watched each other. I remember saying, I've never in my life allowed ANYONE to see me weigh other than my doctor! We all really bonded, and for that I'm glad. There were 6 surgeries done on Friday, and I really loved all of them. We had the BEST last meal ever. We ate together at the Mexican cafe at the hotel. We shared laughs, a few tears, and even bites off each other plates!! Now let me tell you, they have got the BEST guacamole dip in the entire world, and they just kept bringing it (and we kept eating it!). And then at the end of the meal out table was graced with an old-timer, . We picked her brain and asked 8 million questions that we'd forgotten or felt guilty about keeping Nina on the phone for yet another hour. She graciously and thoroughly answered each one. I can't say for anyone else at the table, but I was quite impressed that she didn't even seem to blink an eye at the guacamole.

Ok, so here are my numbers. I have not yet posted them. So I will be taking a big meditative breath as I hit the enter button. I feel like I'm exposing such a private secret...

Re: Re: day 2

Hi Dawn -

I just had my surgery on January 31st with Dr. Aceves. I have been reading the posts on this board for quite some time now and have not felt the need to reach out and respond to anyone, until now. I am absolutely shocked at the condescending treatment you are receiving from some of the "bandsters" on this board and it sounds to me like some of them have lost more than just pounds and inches- they've lost basic human compassion as well.

My experience in Mexico was so-so. Dr. A and his team were great - especially Yolanda. But I think that the language barrier with some of the other hospital staff affected my care. It seemed as though I had to ask for things repeatedly before getting a response but again that could have been because they didn’t understand what I was asking of them. Thank God I had my husband with me who speaks fluent Spanish otherwise I think I would have been SOL.

Hang in there, Dawn. You’ll be home soon where you will be able to heal and begin your weight loss journey with your friends and family who will give you lots of love and support.

im sorry that you think i was on drugs, but this man dozed off twice. i was very wide awake because i cleared my throat twice to startle him. there is myself and a man named jeff across the hall and as of 730pm neither of us have gotten broth or nothing. I took my own sugar cuz i was starting to get shakey and and showed him my reading and he said something about food and he looked at his watch and said said uno m something and brought me juice then later a bowl of broth, but as of yet jeff as got nothing. i walked over and asked.i really think that if someone cant have any negative exp on this board is alittle scary. i am here with two other patients and there not too happy.dawn m>> Dawn, were you on drugs at the time....??? I think a language barrier is to be expected. I knew going in that

would be an issue. Heck, I even got scolded by one of the nurses

b/c I asked for Tylenol and she thought I asked for FOOD and was

trying to tell me I could not eat and that was why I had surgery!

LOL!

As for the condescending attitude- well I will admit, that maybe if

Dawn had not posted about the ride back and no one speaking which we

found out wasn't true there may have been a better reception to her

other post. But that is JMHO. It is much easier to believe someone

who had not just posted something that wasn't the entire truth.

, it is so good to hear that you had your band installed and met some

new bandsters. I am sorry for anything in the least bit less than what was

anticipated. My own experience was so very different and positive. My

staff was in the door almost before I put the buzzer down. I guess in all

situations there are exceptions. Anyway, it sounds like you are off to a

fantastic start to your weight loss. You keep us the good work and keep us

all posted on your success!

Dawn, I am so glad you are back home. If you are going to around the house

a few days (and I hope you are) I would suggest you watch the movie channels

or HGTV as there are much fewer " food diversions " during and between shows.

That will help you during the clear liquid stage. Be sure to keep you

protein levels up around 60 grams a day so you don't feel weak or hungry.

Stick to the program. Do something to keep busy without overdoing it.

Projects like organizing your family photos or phone calls with old friends,

correspondence--how about getting your taxes ready to file. That will

either take your mind off of foor OR PUSH YOU OVER THE EDGE!!!

Best of Luck.

Hey Dawn glad your home safe & sound! You will be questioning the band alot over the next few months. It took me about 3 months to feel truly normal again and another 9 months learning how it works! ;-) You'll do fine...your healing now, take it easy & call Nina if something has you concerned.

Or you could make Dr. Campos really really happy and close your eyes and do the breathing machine excercise during the commercial.

10 inhales = 1 commercial

If you watch enough TV you will have the healthiest lungs on the planet.

2.5 mg is tiny, so you won't notice any difference yet. Increasae your dose according to what Dr Peatfield told you and not before. And yes, you are wanting to rush things too much. Give your body a chance and you will get there.

Being ill for 2 yrs, although slightly better, I just WANT to feel something positive, I feel I have been so patient over the yrs, infact had started to put up with feeling ill, now I wont put up with it!!

I am only increasing as and when I should, I am following the correct procedure, and Sunday I can go up to 2.5 twice a day. By the way the PIL that comes with the HC is scarey reading! I think though it relates to larger doses and long term use, which I am doing neither of!

I do produce some cortisol, just not enough!! So what we saying here? Give it time and be patient? I know the answer!

Bit like when I started prozac, or any other AD'. 4 to 6 weeks to get full benefit! Only I never did get full benefit from prozac, the benefit is not being on it!!

Hi ,

It gets worse by the minute, sometimes.

In between reading a new (perspective) paper by Weissbach, and posting its utility for anyone visiting Florida; I went down to find the post and was alerted to a hand-written addressed envolope (from my milkman) returning a cheque that had been returned unpaid by my bank.....

The reason is both amusing and edifying in equal parts.

I'd written the amount in words different from the amount in numbers.....so the bank, quite naturally, couldn't decide what to pay out.

As all milkmen and bank cashiers realise ( I suspect ) they're the first ones to know about your mental decline according to the ageing process and other finer points along to route to senesence.

Thursday, I'd had a blood sample drawn for cortisol ~ seems unusual, they don't do many, apparently.

The previous week I'd been in to see about the problems Sheila had, squamous cell cancer ( the recurrent and disappearing? reddish blotches on the legs ) ~ according to Prof n Ludgate's website, related to TSHR (TSH Receptor) and by further inference SCH (SubClinical Hypothyroidism). Squamous cell cancer needs checking out to eliminate melanoma/basal cell cancer; hence the aggro for Sheila.

The week before that about Pernicious Anemia to see if either me, my older son or other children are/will be affected by it at some point........'reassured' that I didn't have pernicious anemia ( according to the very wide lab ranges ~ ought to be lab 'rages').

So why did I respond so well to folic acid ? at doses about ten times (5mg/day) what is considerd to be RDA (approx 400micrograms/day)?

My vit B12 level also looked good according to ....rages.

But see Weissbach:-

http://www.jbc.org/cgi/content/full/283/35/23497

THE JOURNAL OF BIOLOGICAL CHEMISTRY VOL. 283, NO. 35, pp. 23497–23504, August 29, 2008

© 2008 by The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Inc.

I'd stopped taking the folic acid about two/three weeks back to get the level down a bit, for later testing.

My short-term memory seems to have improved quite well, with speech less affected.....but maybe the other functions are still a bit 'wobbly'..... did write the cheque too early in the morning to be entirely sure of mental function...lol...

I notice that I can input stuff during the morning with some certainty of retaining 'elements' of the subject matter.....the period during the day in which this is possible seems to vary...(cortisol?)...

so there may be a varying mental capacity that is reflected by the work that Prof Stafford Lighman did some couple of years back, relating glucocorticoids and mineralocorticoids to memory and brain function(s).

I wonder if the milkman, the postman/lady and the cashier all live next door to each other?

best wishes

Bob

Hi

I'm beginning to wonder about the adrenals. Until recently, I don't think I was using enough vit B5 and B6.

I use Brewer's yeast for a cheap source of B vits.Added in calcium pantothenate (B5) and extra vit B6 for the last few weeks.

I can't be absolutely sure, but there seems to be a benefit. I've restarted the folic acid again today after the 'oops' with the cheque.

The stuff I've just been rooting out on low HDL amply justifies my (and my recently retired doc's decision) that statins are borderline or possibly damaging......

http://dx.doi.org/10.1161/ATVBAHA.108.163998

....a' course, steroids need cholesterol too.

Is low folate a factor in poor steroidogenesis....I bet it is?

Skim the work by Weissbach for clues.

best wishes

Bob

Day #2 is going just as good as day #1, he doesn't mind the band at all and

takes his naps like a champ. The only thing is he doesn't want to play, he just

wants to be held, and seems to sleep a lot more with it on. Does anyone know if

this is normal until he gets use to it? Any advice would be helpful..... Thanks

Maybe that's just his way of coping while he gets used to it. Or, maybe it's a

coincidence, and he's going through a growth spurt or something. I'm glad to

hear he's adjusting fairly well. : )

It could also be it's just warm and comforting like a hug. It's hard to say because well at least for me we were teething etc. From: stephaniebilliel <SBilliel@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Tue, January 4, 2011 4:07:35 PMSubject: Re: Day 2

,

We are on day 5 and it has been about the same some days are better than

others. Overall we have had a good experience. Tonight will be his 1st night

sleeping in it. We haven't had any trouble with naps so my fingers are crossed.
