Guest guest
Tracey, I cut and pasted the following from http://www.duodenalswitch.com/Procedure/procedure.html Unlike the unmodified BPD and RNY, which both employ a gastric " pouch " and bypass the pyloric valve, the DS procedure keeps the pyloric valve intact. This eliminates the possibility of dumping syndrome, marginal ulcers, stoma closures and blockages, all of which can occur after other gastric bypass procedures. In addition, unlike the unmodified BPD and RNY procedures, the DS procedure keeps a portion of the duodenum in the food stream. The retention of the pylorus/duodenum pathway means that food is digested normally (to an optimally absorbable consistency) in the stomach before being excreted by the pylorus into the small intestine. As a result, the DS procedure enables more-normal absorption of many nutrients (including protein, calcium, iron and vitamin B12) than is seen after other gastric bypass procedures. Please click on the link above - the site has Dr. Hess' report along with lots of other clinical data. Has your surgeon done the DS??? I think the DS is a more complicated surgery in the " switch area " Maybe the BPD without the switch is just easier for him. It's hard for me to see why he would think the pyloric valve is not important. Who wants to dump? These comments are just my opinion, I am still pre-op. I would be leary if I were in your shoes. I am not familiar with your doctor, just thought I would jump in here with the web info... Even if you have to reschedule, make sure you get the surgery you want. I am in appeal process because my insurer thinks DS is investigational, but I will not settle for anything else. I pray that you are able to face this latest trial with God at your side! Guest guest
.....and who on this list can't generate a good simulation of " panic/anxiety issues " ? Re: Life sometimes sucks...what else can go wrong saga #2 And don't forget one of the arguments I already posted: 1. If you have any panic/anxiety issues or hypoglycemic issues, tell them that you can't bear the thought of possibly " dumping " because " dumping " mimics the symptoms of the above disorders. Guest guest
That's right, baby! It would surely help if you had (or have) some Rxs for benzos, though! Xanax, Ativan, even Klonopin? Of course, you could say that, although you've talked to shrinks about taking one of these drugs in the past for anxiety/panic, you were SO afraid of the addiction potential that you decided to go it alone without drugs. Oh yeah--many SSRI antidepressants are used to treat anxiety/panic disorder, particularly Zoloft and Paxil. So if you happen to be taking one of these kinds of meds already . . . Don't forget to refresh your memory with the horrible symptoms of panic/anxiety attacks, as well. As far as hypoglycemic stuff, well, that's easy to check into.
