Guest guest
Hello: For all I know this info is on the site, but I haven't been able to read all of the posts from the start. I was wondering if anyone on this list had the LAP version of the DS? How long ago was it and how was your recovery period, etc, etc? Could you compare it to the others on this list who've had the OPEN DS version and their recoveries? I'm asking because I've been in contact with Dr.Baltasar,in Spain, who emailed me he would be offering the LAP version in January 2002. Thanks much, Lynn
Guest guest
Hi Lynn, I had lap DS with gastric reduction on 9/11/01 ( was under anesthesia while our beautiful twin towers were being attacked!! ) by the wonderful Dr. Warden in Ocean Sps, MS... I have lost 65 pounds since then and have had a remarkable recovery. I eat exactly what I want to except sodas. I even consume some sugar.. mostly in fruit, but I like pudding and cookies too. My recovery was easy. The first two weeks were the hardest, but was easily able to leave the hospital 5 days post op and walk through security and such at the airport. I had no pain and needed very little pain control. The pca in the hospital was plenty and didnt need it after the second day. I have not had any side effects that were not easy to adjust to.. the biggest one is pooping first thing in the morning and making sure I leave enough time to be thorough. I am back to work and have lots of energy.. I love it and you will too.. !! ) I hope that you are able to have this surgery which I credit with saving my life (without it, I probably would not have lived to see my son grow up).. I give full credit to Dr. Warden, too.. he is a miracle worker and I will always love him for what he did for me. Good luck !! Love, Sue. > Hello: > For all I know this info is on the site, but I haven't been able to > read all of the posts from the start. Guest guest
My surgery was performed lap on 5/30/01. My recovery was not typical because I had 2 " stomach viruses, " boom-boom.. lotsa vomiting & fever. Otherwise I think my recovery would have been around 5 weeks or less. Guest guest
i had lap ds in july. dr. clark warden was my surgeon. my recovery would have been pretty uneventful if not for a leaky bile duct that drained for about 6 weeks postop. after that was over, everything has been pretty peachy. i had 3 c sections with long vertical incisions from pubes to belly button. i much prefer the lap surgery. didn't feel like i would fall open at the seams. could move around really well. felt sore, but not any horrible pain at all from incisions. 5 little one inch cuts. not bad. YMMV mary y > Hello: > For all I know this info is on the site, but I haven't been able to > read all of the posts from the start. My info below in sig block. >Could you compare it to the >others on this list who've had the OPEN DS version and their >recoveries? How can I compare Thee to a DS-Open? Wouldst Thou be so fair...? Who in the hell could know the answer to that question? If a truck hit me, and a bulldozer hit Jim, how can I compare my hurt to Jim's? Consensus seems to be that the open requires a slightly longer hospital stay and that the wound makes it a bit longer to recover, but open DSers claim other benefits that make the extra inconveniences worth it to them. >I'm asking because I've been in contact with Dr.Baltasar,in Spain, who >emailed me he would be offering the LAP version in January 2002. >Thanks much, >Lynn By all accounts, Dr. B is great, and I understand that he has been " practicing " the lap DS on Spanish patients. So, he should be adept at doing it lap. --Steve -- Steve Goldstein, age 61 Lap BPD/DS on May 2, 2001 Dr. Elariny, INOVA Fairfax Hospital, Virginia Starting (05/02/01) BMI = 51 BMI on 11/14 = 39 (-80 lb.) Guest guest
I had a Lap DS on 11/13. I left the hospital on 11/16, and was basically free of any incision pain by 11/18. I only took 2 pain pills after coming home. The major difference is how much muscle they must cut to do the job. The old way was to split you open. > Hello: > For all I know this info is on the site, but I haven't been able to > read all of the posts from the start.
