Guest guest
Hi and welcome to the board! Hang in there! We're here to help! A few questions: 1) Who is your son's doctor? What's been his history of treatment thus far- number of casts, tenotomy? etc. 2) Have you seen/read the tips and tricks document for the FAB? 3) What is the width of the brace? Hold it up to his shoulders/back. The inside edges of the heels of the shoes should be at a minimum distance of the width of his shoulders. If it's too narrow, he'll be able to pull the foot out. 4) Does the foot look fully corrected to you? 5) Was the last cast set at a 70° outward angle and is this how the shoe is rotated also? 6) Do you have the ability to share digital pictures of his feet and brace with us? You can join the group CFPics on yahoo (moderated group to ensure safety) and we'll try to see if we can notice anything unusual. Hugs! If the foot is fully corrected and the brace is set up right, the bracing is usually a breeze....we'll try to help you get there! Here's another site that might help: http://members.tripod.com/ponseti_links-ivil look in the bracing section. & (3-16-00, left clubfoot)
Guest guest
Hello, Welcome to the group. So sorry to hear that you are having such difficulties with the shoes! Hang in there!! We are here to help you! Many of us felt like throwing that contraption across the room at one time or another when beginning with the FAB but once you get it figured out and your baby is comfy in the shoes, you really will come to if not love then appreciate the brace for what it is doing for your child. Know this seems impossible now but it's true I promise If you could give us some more info (answer the questions posed by ) then we will put our heads together and figure out why your little one is able to pull his foot out, this of course as you know, should not be happening. Once we get this figured out, it WILL get so much easier! & Grace unilateral right club foot FAB 13hrs > > Hi everybody, my son just began wearing his dennis browne bar this > past saturday (thus day number 5) and we are having a real hard time. > He keeps knocking his shoe off from his left club foot (unilateral > left club foot). Guest guest
Yup, right there with you!!!! My son had the same problem (and this was just a few weeks ago), and worse as when he would try and pull his foot out the heel would rub on the back - it gave him a blister! He was in the 0000s, with 3 layers extra of padding at the back. Unfortunately for us, the answer was replacing them with the shoes. He couldn't wear the Markell's with a big blister causing so much pain anyways (you might want to check that). The s took a week and half total to order. Also, I spoke to to explain the problem and she was able to get them turned around very quickly. http://www.mdorthopaedics.com/pages/6/index.htm My doctor was not bothered by the lack-of-wearing for that time period, in fact he then says he prefers the s - which made me want to stangle him for having us go through the Markell process it the first place! Good luck! > > > > Hi everybody, my son just began wearing his dennis browne bar this > > past saturday (thus day number 5) and we are having a real hard time. > > He keeps knocking his shoe off from his left club foot (unilateral > > left club foot). Guest guest
Hello and welcome to the group! I'm sure we can help you get this working for you. My first instinct is that his foot may not be fully corrected. This is often the case in unilateral babies who are getting just that one foot out of the shoe. If you would like to share a bit more about your son's case, i.e. who his doctor is and how his foot looks, we can certainly help you get this figured out. The things to look for with his foot are this: 1) How far past neutral (straight) was his last cast turned out? 2) How much dorsiflexion does he have, i.e. with the palm of your hand on the bottom of his foot, how far can you push it up past " L " ? 3) If you hold him up in a standing position does his foot go flat on the floor? Let us know and we'll get this figured out for you! This said, my heart is breaking for my little beautiful angel, he cried again all day and i cant believe i have three full months of this. i dont know how much more i can take i really hope he adjusts to the shoes and quick cuz im really depressed now. thanks for the support gracesmommy04 wrote: Hello, Welcome to the group. Guest guest
hi, thanks for reply, my son s doctor is doctor beneroch and we are doing the treatments in montreal, quebec, canada at the shriners hospital. my son underwent six castings and a tenotomy, this is his first week in the dennis bar brace. his last casting was set at 70 degrees. as i mentioned to gracesmommy, he kept the shoe on today but i needed to tighten strap to 8th hole on his 000m shoe. i was reassurred by casting technicians that this was not too tight but im so scared ill cut off his circulation, anyhow he is still crying bloody murder and i want my pleasant happy son back, is there no other alternative to this damn brace? he has some redness at the heel and i noticed his leg is still swollen but i was told that is to be expected because he was casted for 3 weeks after tenotomy. is all this normal? jennyandkelly wrote: Hi and welcome to the board! Guest guest
Lucia: Try oiling the shoe to soften the leather. I always used vitamin e oil for this purpose -- and it was very helpful when our son was breaking in new shoes. Best of luck to you! t mom to Max (bilateral CF) > > > > Hi everybody, my son just began wearing his dennis browne bar this > > past saturday (thus day number 5) and we are having a real hard time. > > He keeps knocking his shoe off from his left club foot (unilateral > > left club foot).
