Guest guest
" DAN doctors are saying GFCF and enzymes. " Can you tell me more? Does this mean a dose of 1/2-1 capsule with every meal, or just a dose once a day? Yesterday I received my first bottle of Kirkman's EnzymeAide and really am not sure how often to use it. I do my best to keep him on the diet but am so unsure if he is reactive to corn and soy - especially as oils in potato chips, fries etc. So, do you think the enzymes will help with possible corn and soy reactions(he tends to get hyper and/or distant for a short time after eating chips-even Ruffles and lays original). I guess I really need to be asking where can I learn about the " news coming from the DAN conference about enzymes. " Thanks, Eva *** Enzymes from listowner > After hearing about all of the news coming from the DAN conference about enzymes, I feel ready to share our experience. We have been using enzymes for the past 2 months with much success. We originally tried EnzymAid from Kirkman's and saw no improvements. Although as I write this, I now realize that playing with enzyme dosage is crucial for each individual. There is a possibility our dosing amount was incorrect. We switched to a product called Peptizyde which has been working very well for us. I have also seen that Kirkman's has a new enzyme product out called DPP IV Forte and EnzymAid Complete. These are two enzyme products I will also try. > > In the meantime, Hannah is doing amazingly well! I'm convinced that she was allergic to other things that I was missing in her diet. I have long suspected soy and possibly corn, but I was at my personal limit of restricting her diet any further that GFCF. We were corn free for a couple of months and I admire and respect each parent who goes further than GFCF, it can be quite a challenge. Her teachers did not say much about progress when school first started, but they are definitely saying things now. She even just recently earned an award for best efforts in handwriting (one of her past challenges.) Last year all of her spelling words were just random letters thrown together. Now she is getting almost every spelling word correct. Her reading is excelling and her speech is getting so much better. I have noticed that our conversations flow better. I don't have to stop and ask her to repeat her words. Her responses are more appropriate. She took off her training wheels to her bike and can ride her bike now. Her confidence is really skyrocketing. I am seeing large gains as I did when we first started the GFCF diet. While we have always moved forward at a steady pace, we have not had the huge jumps like we did at the beginning of the diet, until now. I can see a difference in her this month from last month. > > Every family is unique and I would never suggest for a parent to challenge the diet while taking enzymes, but we have been on the diet for 3 years and I have on occasion slipped in some gluten or casein to reconvince myself we needed to continue GFCF. Since we have been using the enzymes, curiosity got the better of me and I have challenged the diet with success, although it took some enzyme dosing experiments to get it right. Again I would never suggest others to try this, as DAN doctors are saying GFCF and enzymes. We are still 98% GFCF (with an occasional non GFCF treat) and along with the enzymes (which seem to be knocking out other unknown allergens) she is doing great! I'm trying to get others to try enzymes on a local basis to see if they also can achieve some degree of success as well. > > I just wanted to relay our personal story and encourage others who may not have tried enzymes yet, to please look into it because it may be worth a try. I'm sure Kirkmans or Houston Nutraceuticals would be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding digestive enzymes. Also please feel free to e-mail me personally as well. > > Cara > listowner > clewisi1@... > > > > >
Guest guest
>> Can you tell me more? Does this mean a dose of 1/2-1 capsule with every meal, or just a dose once a day? For the DAN conference it was as much as enzymes for every meal and snack. This is very consistent with what has been found on the enzymesandautism board. That taking enzymes regularly helps with gut healing and immune system support among other things. Certain products such as Peptizyde, SerenAid and EnzymAid (or now a much better one is EnzymAid Complete - not Companion) contain special blends just breaking down the casein/gluten/soy that cause the opioid peptide problems. Other general all-purpose blends such as Zyme Prime, Companion, or Vital-Zyme Forte (from Klaire, really nice price on it) or others from you health food store, help with other foods. I and my kids take the " therapeutic " dose of 7-9 a day and I can definitely tell the difference between that and taking 4 a day at meals. I have chronic fatigue and migraines, and this dosing really enhances my energy and decreases pain. Enzymes need to be taken at meals to be effective, and they are active in the gut for about 90 minutes afterwards. The DAN presenters commonly pointed out the first line of action as GFCF diet, probiotics, and digestive enzymes. .
