Guest guest
Kathy, If you think it maybe a problem with your bowels, goto the hospital immediately!! Have you been diagnosed with a hernia ? I wonder if the coughing is squeezing your intestines through a hole in your abdominal wall ? Unless you're local to your DS surgeon, go to the ER and get checked!! *hugs* Anita > I am mostly a lurker, but I do know there are many of you in this group that can help with medical questions. > > I am about 4 months post-op and have done pretty well to this point. I have had a bad cough for the last week. This morning when I coughed, I got a sharp pain in my lower right side. The pain was so bad that I almost fell over. I can't seem to stand up straight without feeling pain and coughing is really painful. I have found if I bend tight in that area when I cough it isn't as bad. What is this? At first I thought it was a pulled muscle, but now it really hurts and I am getting scared. I called my surgeons office, but I don't expect to hear back for a couple of hours as they are in surgery right now. > > Please help! Guest guest
If you have been coughing a lot, or hard enough, you may have separated a rib from the cartilage. An X-Ray would confirm it. I did the same thing many years ago and the pain was just as you described. Either way you need to see a doctor to rule out anything else.
