Guest guest
I don't know what to tell you Carol, except to maybe try lengthening the bar even a little passed the shoulder width. A little extra lengthening may make a difference if nothing else is found as the culprit. Did she eat anything different that would cause cramping or tummy problems? I'm sorry I can't be of more help. Carol Shelton wrote: is 8 months old and in the s for 18/7 a day. She has worn them for about 5 months. She has always slept with me in bed and has gotten into a pattern of waking about twice to nurse and going straight back to sleep for the past several months. Well, the past three nights, she has been very restless, wakes up every 30 minutes to an hour, won't nurse or go back to sleep until I rock in her in the living room. She has four teeth but is not currently teething (and never did this when teething) and is not ill, no diaper rash, etc. I have wondered if this is related to the FAB. I have lengthened the bar and it is exactly the length of her shoulders (from the outside of her shoulders), measuring from middle bolt to middle bolt on the shoes, which is 9 inches. Keeping the bar the width of her shoulders has always worked for her in the past. Her shoes are getting small in length for her and her toes have just begun to stick over the ends a bit but the width seems fine and she has no red marks or any other indication that they are bothering her. I am stumped. In desperation, I took off the FAB about 2:30 am last night and she did sleep somewhat better but was still restless. I put it back on at 7 am. I am trying to figure out the cause of her problems so I can address it. I am a walking zombie. Any thoughts or help? Thanks, Carol
Guest guest
I'd say the same, go shoulder to shoulder heel to heel (insides) and see how that works. Night waking exactly like you describe always meant lengthening the bar for us too. Especially at that age, seems Darbi was particularly sensitive to length at that age. additionally, there's a growth spurt around that age too, which would mean she's hungrier more often. Thus... more night nursing. All my babies did that at or around 7-9mo's. Guest guest
I was going to say all of this too, esp. about the growth spurt. The other thing could be, even if there are no outward signs, that the shoes are getting uncomfortable if they are a bit too small. Although the fact that she was still restless without the shoes on makes me think it might not be them at all. Let us know if you think of anything else and we'll hash it out! > > is 8 months old and in the s for 18/7 a day. She has > >worn them for about 5 months. Guest guest
it could just be that with her age her sleep needs are changing, maybe too much napping during the day to sleep well at night? s. sleep problems is 8 months old and in the s for 18/7 a day. Guest guest
Gabe goes through something like this every few months or so... I believe the discomfort is caused by growth spurts. He has complex clubfeet. Often when he is having a growth spurt, his shoes seem to bother him at night. This continues for a couple weeks till his tendons stretch to accommodate his growth. My understanding is that this is not uncommon for typical clubfoot either (tendons growing more slowly than bones). If you can not find anything else that may be bothering her, maybe this could be happening. Hope everything resolves itself soon. Guest guest
We had this problem about a month ago. We thought teeth or ears. Logan's toes had started to go over the edge a little, but I figured open toe no problem and in a week we would be back in MD and could pick up our new shoes. The third night of restlessness I took the FAB off and he slept much better. The next day we took a 4 hour trip for new shoes (because they would not mail them). It turned out to be his shoes. The next night he slept much better. It never occurred to me that the width was too small. He was not getting marks or soars, just plain uncomfortable I guess. Another thing that helped was apparently Logan wanted the bed to himself. He had been sleeping in the bed with us since the FAB started at 3mo, he's now 10mo. We put him in his crib about two weeks ago and he sleeps much better ( so do we now that we don't get kicked in the head by the ends of the bar). Good Luck!! and Logan Re: sleep problems Gabe goes through something like this every few months or so... I believe the discomfort is caused by growth spurts. He has complex clubfeet. Guest guest
Just wanted to say thanks to all who replied. Don't have time to respond individually, but it gives me food for thought and ideas to try. I did try and lengthen the bar a bit more yesterday and she slept a bit better. I have started solids recently and, although she is not getting much at all, I eliminated them to make sure that was not the problem. She was still somewhat restless last night and didn't sleep as soundly as she usually does, but it was better than the three nights previous to this. Since we co sleep in my bed, she seems to want to have my breast in her mouth most of the night. A real boob addict here! I am willing to do this for the short term until she grows a bit and we can find another solution. Just wanted to say that I feel so grateful for this group. I would feel so alone in my search for answers without it. Thanks! Guest guest
Carol- You can test whether its the fab that is causing restlessness or something else(growth spurt?)-have her sleep without the fab at night. If she sleeps through the night-no issue-then its the fab and we can experiment with length/socks/shoes etc. If she still is restless or unhappy-then at least you know its not the fab!! We have luckily received a 6 month hiatus from teething-our little man got soo many at one time. However, he is now getting his 2year molars and its affecting everything-his sleep, his eating habits, his personality!! I thought at first it was the shoes-but after removing them-he was still restless/irritable. I checked his little gums and low and behold i could feel the molars coming in-I can't wait for them to actually cut!! Guest guest
This is very interesting. I had not heard it before stated in this way but it does make sense. has been sleeping better since I lengthened her bar...but I had to lengthen it twice before it made a difference. I do believe that must have been the problem. She should get new shoes in the next few weeks so I hope that might make her more comfy, too, since the old ones are getting a bit small.
