Guest guest
We had a rotten first night - very little sleep, but by the next day our little guy seemed to accept it and it has gone well from there. Good luck! Guest guest
First night can be rough as the babies are used to being able to move their feet independently and now they are together and have to move as one. Show your son how to move his feet together-up and down, etc. Also-check out the files section-there is a wonderful fab tips/tricks document in the files section under the folder fab tips/tricks. Its a pdf file with lots of pictures and lots of advice. Come back to us if he is still fussy as we are here to help! take care, kathleen mom to david bcf fab 12/7 > > My 5 month old has just exited the casting phase and entered the > bracing phase- While totally elated and thankful - he is not sleeping > with the brace on- any suggestions/tips/help!!??? > > ( Father of (2) and Austin (5 months bcf) >
Guest guest
It takes a bit of time for the baby to get used to the brace, including the weight of it and not being able to lift his feet as easily as well as the fact that he has to learn how to kick both feet together. You can teach him how to kick his feet together by moving the brace up and down and showing him. It only took a day or so to get that movement down. Is your son in the Markell shoes and bar? If so, it is a bit weightier than the shoes and bar and is harder for them to lift. was most frustrated by this when she went into the Markells. We ended up getting the shoes for her since the Markells gave her a pressure sore. Have you looked at your son's feet? Are there any marks or red spots, etc? What length bar is he using? Some docs prescribe a bar that is too short for the baby's comfort. Please share the answers to these questions and there is some smart person (probably not me, LOL) who can help you figure this out. Even if everything is okay and the shoes are not hurting your son, it does take time for the babies to get used to them. Hang in there! Guest guest
It's very rough starting out, but it gets better. He will sleep again! (And so will you!!) I had a hard time believing that when my son started in them, but it's true. We had to go through " the first night " a couple of times because of blisters/ulcers. Keep an eye on your baby's feet for sore spots. Good luck!! > > My 5 month old has just exited the casting phase and entered the > bracing phase- While totally elated and thankful - he is not sleeping > with the brace on- any suggestions/tips/help!!??? > > ( Father of (2) and Austin (5 months bcf) >
Guest guest
Hi , You have gotten some good advise already and I am sure that you have read the tips & tricks doc. So I just wanted to say hang in there, it does get better!!! It is really amazing how fast our kids adjust to the brace. Once you get over the adjustment phase (took our daughter a couple of days), it gets so much easier! & Grace 20mos urcf FAB 13 hrs > > My 5 month old has just exited the casting phase and entered the > bracing phase- While totally elated and thankful - he is not sleeping > with the brace on- any suggestions/tips/help!!??? > > ( Father of (2) and Austin (5 months bcf) >
Guest guest
I'm sorry to say, but you might want to be ready for several sleepless nights. Our daughter was inconsolable for ten full days and nights (23hrs a day in the shoes to begin with). However, on day 11 the change was miraculous. Kathleen's recommendations are great. In addition, if you have friends/family that can come over during the day so you can nap or even come over at night so you can grab a few hours of sleep - it helps! Guest guest
Congrats - before you know it, your little one will amaze you with the tricks he quickly learns with the DBB. I'll never forget - Zach wasn't the greatest sleeper BEFORE the bar we thought it couldn't get any worse. Then, entered the DBB - oh that dreadful thing. (or so we thought at the time) I'd say it took Zach about 5 L O N G nights. Then like a lightbulb going on he started to sleep MUCH better. It'll feel like forever, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. I'd say if it doesn't get better after a couple of weeks that you should definitely come back here and we can troubleshoot. Now Zach is 3.5 and can't sleep WITHOUT the bar - go figure Holly Zachary 7/27/02 Unilateral Right C/F Treated by Dr. Ponseti DBB Nights Only > > > > > > My 5 month old has just exited the casting phase and entered the > > > bracing phase- While totally elated and thankful - he is not > > sleeping > > > with the brace on- any suggestions/tips/help!!??? > > > > > > ( Father of (2) and Austin (5 months bcf) > > > > > >
