Guest guest
Hey, Sheryl! Come to think of it, I haven't been told ANYTHING! I know that I have to call Yvonne (Gagner's nurse) on Monday to find out when to report on Tuesday for surgery, but I don't know if I'm supposed to fast that day, take Fleets Phospho-Soda (I hope not; just drank it for a colonoscopy and wanted to HURL! How can anyone consume an entire JUG of GoLytely?!), or just fast from midnight on. Have you been given ANY preparatory instructions? > Hi , > > Were you told to only have liquids the day before surgery? > > Sheryl
Guest guest
hi all, i am nancy and i am having surgery with dr herron on 12/7. this is the pre op info i have: bowel preparation. the day before you surgery you should stay on a clear liquid diet. examples are chicken broth, gatorade, jell-o etc shower with antibacterial soap, such as dial, lever 2000, not moisturizing soaps, the night before and the morning before surgery. do not use aspirin, ibuprofen or other compounds containing these medications at least 7 days prior to surgery as they cause increased bleeding. If you are taking coumadin, persantine , or aspirin please discuss this with your doctor a week before your surgery. If you have diabetes and take medications daily for this, please call the nurse or doctor for instructions. and finally, no eating or drinking after midnight, the night before the surgery. If you are taking medications, please take them with a sip of water. Speak to your doctor or nurse what medications you should take or not take the morning of surgery. I hope this helps. This packet was mailed to me along with the directions as to where to go in the hospital good luck to all of you, nancy -- In duodenalswitch@y..., " Patti Skiba " <psscares@n...> wrote: > I was told by Dr. Gagners nurse I could eat up until 10:00 PM the night > before surgery, which I did. Any Herron/Pomp post-ops out there who were on a liquid diet the day before? I remember just not eating after midnight... Is it possible Mt Sinai's pre-op bowel prep rules have changed and/or Gagner does things differently? I had my surgery 9 months ago, so it's been awhile.... all the best,

I also had to do the liquid diet the day before surgery. explained to me that they did not used to require that, but too many people were eating heavy meals the day before and food was not digested and so they have changed their policy. They now want just liquids the day before. Hope that helps. SheriGr Lap/open DS Dr Herron 9/28/
